Makers of a game (FarmVille) on Facebook introduced "holiday trees" with "holiday presents" you could send to people for their trees. The use of "holiday" instead of "Christmas" has caused a big stir among players of the game. Some have said they just don't think Christ should be removed from things that celebrate a Christian holiday just to not offend people of other religions. Others contend that it's just another scary step in the trend of GOD being removed from EVERYTHING (the pledge of allegiance was specifically cited).
I thought I'd bring this question to Livejournal for opinions because I think it's an interesting topic. So...
1. Do you think the game maker did something worthy of scorn by calling the items "holiday trees", etc. rather than "Christmas trees", etc.?
2. Do you think people should make such a fuss over it?
I began to go back and forth with some people on it and gave up when the pledge of allegiance was introduces into the argument. It's completely on a different level than a phrase in a game, but that's my opinion.
