he in fact did lose... the moment he wanted to head-butt an opposing team member. a captain should not do that sort of thing. i am sure it didnt help matters
well, no one is arguing what he did wasn't wrong. i'm just saying he hadn't lost yet. did it help the french? no.
did it hurt them? not really. trezequet was already in the game when that happened so logic has it that missed penalty would have happened with zidane in the game anyway.

All I'm trying to say is that Zidane made a very, very bad (not to mention shallow and shameful) decision to to think only about himself. And as a team captain, leader, star player, and soccer role model for kids ALL AROUND THE WORLD, I think his actions were nothing but cowardly. He won the Golden Ball Award, but to me he's a HUGE and utter SORE LOSER.
