Not all of you are friends on LJ with Bart, but this is something he posted this morning. Let's all keep camp, the trustees, and the interview committees in our prayers as they select the new executive director. And also Bruno as he helps out during the waiting and transition times of the new person.

From Bart....
A few people have contacted me in the last couple of days, so I guess I should post here!

Mark "Bruno" Hughes is now serving as Sumatanga's interim executive director. Most of y'all know Bruno through senior high camps and retreats, especially as the guy who makes the cool name tags. I'm going to do my best to share exactly what Bruno stated when he introduced himself to the full camp staff on Monday afternoon:

He will be serving for approximately 8-10 weeks, in his estimation, until a full-time, long-term executive director can be hired. Bruno is also an attorney and serves a church part-time in the Birmingham area. So he'll be at camp on Mondays and on the weekends, basically as much as possible. But he's available 24/7 via cell phone and e-mail. One stipulation that Bruno shared at our full-staff meeting on Monday is that, in serving as interim director, he is not eligible for consideration as the eventual executive director.

I know that all sounds very basic but I want to make sure that you know exactly what Bruno shared with us. As for the long-term search for an executive director, he didn't share anything specific and I don't really know if there is anything more to share, except that the job opening has been posted in a number of places....ACA....UMC Camp Leaders Network....camp's website. I have no idea who has applied. Ellen Harris is heading up the search, I think.

Bruno is working very hard to get up to speed on a lot of the basics of running the camp and conference center. As well, he and I are setting up meetings at local churches for our RSI consultant to meet potential donors for the new capital funds campaign. This is a very big responsibility so please keep us in your prayers as we try to find people who can help make major overhauls to our facilities a reality!
