Amanda Palmer played until close to 1am last night.
I'm exhausted.
Totally worth it. Love her.
Edit #1.
Okay, I've woken up a bit, and want to talk a little about the show. First of all, I had no idea she was so tiny! I'd seen the Dresden Dolls once before, but that was at the Orpheum in Boston and I was pretty far back from the stage. Last night she went onto the stage by walking through the audience and she can't be more than 5'2". Anyway, she had a group of performers with her (like performance art or something - and one of them played violin along with about half of her songs) and they lifted her up onto the stage and she played Astronaut first - which is the first song off her solo album. Holy crap I felt like I was going to cry. It was weird, I don't think I've ever had such an emotional response at a concert other than the last Marvelous 3 show. Music I love performed live - there's nothing like it. I'm going to try to find some photos online from the show and add them here later. I tried taking one but it came out all blurry and grainy. I wasn't planning on taking a ton, one or two tops, so I'm really not that disappointed. Also want to try to find a set list. So, highlights:
- She talks. A lot. Just really interacts with the crowd, it's great.
- Did an "Ask Amanda" segment where there was a basket out on the merch table where people could submit questions, then she pulled about 5 of them out.
- Really liked the first opening act Vermillion Lies. Adorable sister duo who sang songs that sounded like 1930s folk songs.
- For the encore she started with a song on the ukelele that was like a letter to the house that she grew up in that got sold. Made me sad because the house I grew up in is going to be sold soon. There was a line towards the end that went something like "I'm sorry you were bought by an evil yuppie couple with a child who is going to put Miley Cyrus posters up on the wall of my old bedroom." I don't want Miley Cyrus posters up on the wall of my old bedroom either! ;)
- During the encore people were back at the bar talking and generally being loud (although I think they did actually get quiet when she was playing) so for the last song of the night - a cover of Creep on the ukelele - she played it on the bar.
