Premiere season continues apace

I've had a few evenings when I haven't wanted/had time to watch the day's crop of shows and I'm already hopelessly behind. But I've still managed to watch quite a lot before my mini-hiatus. Let's get to it!

The Blacklist 1x02
I liked episode two more than the pilot, so I'm keeping this on my schedule. Not sure if it'll stay there permanently or even after I watch episode 3 (hopefully tonight), but for now, it stays.

Brooklyn Nine-Nine 1x03
I was just reaching the conclusion that this would probably be the only comedy keeper for this season (Trophy Wife is too family-oriented for me, ditto on The Michael J. Fox Show. Haven't even been able to bring myself to watch the second episode of The Crazy Ones, Super Fun Night was a trainwreck, etc) and of course cancellation rumors are already floating around. *sigh*

Elementary 2x02
ELEMENTARY, NEVER ABANDON ME AGAIN. This show is so far and away my favorite thing on TV right now it's not even funny.

And so far this season has been so 'shippy! My theory on it is this: the writers/creators, having now established that they're NEVER EVER EVER GOING THERE, KTHXBI can start writing the kind of intimate scenes that makes Holmes and Watson into the tight-knit team that they want them to be. And as viewers who are used to seeing 'shippiness everywhere we turn (especially for those of us who actually 'ship them), we may interpret it romantically, but we're supposed to know better because we know the intention behind it.

Of course, in practice it comes off a bit confusing.

Not to mention the fact that I think it's a big mistake to make that kind of a declaration. Sure, say romance is not a factor and you want to develop their working relationship, but don't rule it out for ever. Because there may just come a day when you've written yourself into a corner where you either take their relationship to the next level or do the whole Moonlighting curse, but WORSE. Because you're refusing to make the next logical progression in the relationship because you started with the idea that you wouldn't.

My read is that Sherlock is already half-way in love with Joan, while she's mostly just fascinated with his brain. But as long as the show stays as wonderful as it is right now, I don't care if they ever get together.

The Good Wife 5x02
Will has never been my favorite character. He's just so opaque. Or...not even inscrutable, it just seems like he's all surface, no depth.

But oh man, am I looking forward to this season! Betrayed by both women he loves! This might make me love him yet.

I'm loving the whole Florrick Agos thing, and I'm hoping it leads to a complete rift between the old!partners and the new!partners. Only, of course, to culminate in a merger (forced or amicable? I'd be down for both) by the season finale.

Now just get rid of Peter and I'll be over the moon with this season (he can stay on the show, I don't care, just make it so that he's never ever again a viable option for Alicia).

Nashville 2x02
The first episode was much too soapy, but I liked the second episode a lot better. Really happy Rayna told Teddy that under no circumstances would they get back together.

New Girl 3x04
Oh, they're doing the Nick/Jess thing SO WELL. I'm loving it this season.

Not loving Schmidt, though, but I'm totally on board for a redemption arc. As long as there's actual redemption at the end of it.

SHIELD 1x02
Other people may be here for Joss, but I'm here because I like the Marvel world and I'd love to see this universe from the eyes of the ordinary people who aren't the exalted superheroes of the movies.

Here's the problem with SHIELD: it's not doing that.

Quite frankly, the effect of real life superheroes, aliens and gods on the common man should give them ample stories to explore the world. But instead they're focusing on alien tech and South American stereotypical bad guys. Not to mention, the sets were beyond the pale. I honestly thought I'd been transported back to the early 80s to watch an episode of Bring 'Em Back Alive (hey, anyone remember that old Bruce Boxleitner show? Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?) in the scenes from that temple in episode 2.

That said, I haven't watched episode 3 yet (due to the aforementioned Failure to TV), so maybe it's really good? I'll find out soon...

The Witches of East End 1z01
I just watched this tonight and I kind of really loved it? Like, it's not GOOD. But it was sure fun! I will definitely keep watching this show, at least for a few more episodes.

tv: witches of east end, tv: blacklist, tv: elementary, tv: nashville, tv: new girl, tv: brooklyn nine-nine, tv: good wife, tv: shield
