I haven't posted in over a month and the sad thing is that I still don't feel like I have anything to post about. But I'm going to give it a try nonetheless, because this is getting ridiculous.
My Year in EntertainmentI'm trying for the 100 / 100 / 100 trifecta this year. That is: 100 movies watched, a 100 television seasons completed, 100 books

I think Mary ended up growing on a lot of people. I didn't really like her at the beginning either ("I'm supposed to ship her with Matthew?"), but she really grew on me to become one of my favorite characters.
Damn, but a good knife will just make your day when you're cooking
Not to mention, a good, sharp knife is also safer!

I like that they don't shy away from Mary's bad sides, but also show us that there's something more to her. Well played for only seven episodes.
You don't realize how much a really good knife is worth the money until you get your hands on one for the first time. I already had the smaller Global chef's knife, but this time I got the 20 cm one so that I would have one that isn't smaller than the piece of beef I'm trying to cut into (even if the knife is sharp, if it's too short it leads to a lot of sawing).

Yes, I agree. As much as I was hoping (and even expecting!) Mary and Matthew's resolution to be...brighter, shall we say, in the last episode, I think it played out the way it needed to. Mary clearly loves and cares about Matthew, but it would have felt untrue to her character if she'd suddenly put her reservations and hesitance aside just because.

I wasn't really expecting good things for Mary and Matthew. In fact, I was kind of hoping for not-good things since I knew that there'd be more and figured that if they ended up happy in season 1, season 2 would go out of its way to tear them down as much as possible. This way, the story continues to be about them and getting them together.

I LOVE that coat
Yay Spirited! I agree with you that the romance is the least successful part of the show - I like the friendship between them more than the true love angle.

ME TOO! I can't wait for it to get here.
I watched it on your rec! It doesn't hurt that I've liked Claudia Karvan since I saw her in a really cheesy romcom about fifteen years ago (incidentally, also the first thing I saw Guy Pearce in).

I hear you on the posting thing; will try to find the time and inspiration this year.
Ooh, DVD caps! IIRC, the R2 of TGW isn't out yet... but then again, I know you don't normally buy those if you don't have to. I'm holding out until the price's gone down a bit.
That coat looks quite nice, although it is a bit hard to tell from those tiny pictures. And yeah, good knives are essential. I really like my Fiskars set, because it's left-hand friendly and has a really good grip. But of course, not the same quality as Global... though the fruit knife is ace for peeling lime fruits. :-)
I really enjoyed Spirited too, and I actually don't mind the romance bit at all, though I haven't really paid that miuch attention to the marketing bit. Have yet to see Downton Abbey. Must be in the proper mood for it.

As you can see, my record of posting (and answering comments) isn't exactly showing signs of improvement yet. If only I had a heart a reason to post!
Actually, I have the R2 version of the Good Wife DVDs, they have it on Amazon UK for around £15 (at least last time I checked, last week or so).
It is a bit hard to tell from the picture, but I finally got it and I like it a lot! Which is always a gamble when you buy things online. I have a Fiskars bread knife! That I bought at ÖB for like 39:- or something. Heh! But it's doing the job just fine despite its cheap price.
I don't mind the romance, I thought it worked well within the context of the show, but I don't think it carried - or could have carried! - the show the way the tag line implied.
I just recently bought the Downton Abbey DVDs and I'm already itching for a rewatch. Just as soon as I finish watching Sherlock.
