So, the Buffy comics are sure cracktastic, huh? I get the sense that some B/A 'shippers are loving this latest development, what with Buffy and Angel fucking in midair and all. (And apparently without any thought to the soul, so I guess either Buffy doesn't care if she brings forth Angelus, or she forgot?) The whole thing is just a) making me glad it's not my 'ship, and b) reminding me why B/A could NEVER EVER IN A MILLION YEARS have been my 'ship.
I could think of no worse fate than finding out that my 'ship of choice was together only because they had no other choice. And that they, in fact, never will have a choice in the matter. Being told that they're not together of their free will, because they want to be with each other? Yeah, the stuff of nightmares in my book. But since this has always been a B/A trope, I guess the same could not be said for B/A 'shippers?
Of course, from what I've read (i.e. not the comics themselves, but only other people's posts on the subject), this whole set-up is just seven shades of wrong. Some B/A 'shippers may be happy now, but I can't help but feel that this is their very own season 6 - seeing their 'ship come together and having it all be WRONG, WRONG, WRONG. I mean, Angel killing slayers and Buffy in the immediate aftermath of the reveal saying "sure, let's screw like bunnies"? OMG, what is this madness?! There's nothing about the whole set-up that doesn't scream "THIS IS A HORRIBLE THING THAT'S HAPPENING RIGHT HERE". And if that's not the intent? Wow, again: SOOOO glad this is not my 'ship.
In my opinion, pretty much the best thing you could hope for as a B/A 'shipper is for this to be the culmination of the whole "destined" crap, where Buffy and Angel being destined is all horribly sick and twisted and the Scoobies (and maybe Spike?) have to take them down and break the mystical bond to save the world from going under. And then in the aftermath, finally letting them have the choice of being together.
At which point, my mind immediately goes to both of them being horrified and disgusted with having been used in such a manner, finally looking at each other with clear eyes and promptly turning around and walking away from the whole mess.
But either way, this is not my canon. The idea of comics being canon went out the window when Buffy started robbing banks. And I think I'm much better off for it, don't you?
Fandom Steel Cage Match is giving me ulcers, even just in the prelims. And it seems like I've become disproportionally invested in races where I don't even watch the show! (GO, CHLOE, GO! Don't let those sockpuppet journals beat you!). And so many others are so close that I'll be biting my nails until
typicrobots closes the poll.
I'm also pretty heavily invested in the Sci-Fi side of things, with at least three out of my dream!dream final four coming from that bracket. But in the real world, my dream final four would probably be Aeryn, Lorelai Gilmore, Chandler and Pacey duking it out. Or Buffy, Bones, Jon Stewart and Pacey. (Because no one beats Pacey in the Teen bracket, I've decided. Right now. Talk to me in an hour and I might be telling a different story.)
ETA: Changed my Castiel vote to Sam. Sam's never going to be the powerhouse that Dean is and at least there's a chance that he could overtake Dean, right? If everyone who voted for Castiel as the NOT!Dean choice switched?
