BPAL

I bought a 5ml bottle of Obatala, which was my favorite from the first batch, and 18 new imps, and I think it really helped to have ordered once before because this time most of the scents worked and there were none of the "OH HELL NO" scents that I got a few of last time.

The imps:
  1. Ultraviolet (Lush violet and neroli spiked hard with eucalyptus and a sliver of mint.)
  2. The Coil (Ozone, eucalyptus and mint with purple orchid, passionflower, white ginger, and purple lotus.)
  3. Violet Ray (White mint, purple musk, violet, lilac, ylang ylang, lavender moss, and sandalwood. )
  4. Yemaya (a bounty of melons and grapes, strewn with the petals of the flowers of motherhood, draped with sea mosses.)
  5. Bliss (milk chocolate)
  6. O (Amber and honey with a touch of vanilla.)
  7. Undertow (The Dark Side of Water: clean and purifying, yet menacing -- lotus and juniper with a hint of mint.)
  8. Szepasszony (A chilly, tempestuous whirlwind of clear, airy notes, slashing rain, and a thin undercurrent of white flowers.)
  9. Eat Me (Three white cakes, vanilla, and red and black currants. )
  10. White Rabbit (Strong black tea and milk with white pepper, ginger, honey and vanilla, spilled over the crisp scent of clean linen. )
  11. The Mock Turtle's Lessons (blurry aquatic notes, with a confusing, contrary splort of iris, ambrette, green apple, vodka, white mint and a squish of lime. )
  12. Cockaigne (milk and honey, sweet cakes and wine.)
  13. Intrigue (Black palm, with cocoa, fig and shadowy wooded notes.)
  14. Aureus (True, perfect golden light, refined into an incomparably glorious scent.)
  15. Fascinum (Golden amber, golden musk, litsea cubeba, cedar, and saffron. )
  16. Titiania (white grape, white peach, iced pear, musk rose, sweet pea, moonflower and snapdragon. )
  17. Mag Mell (The warmth of amber, the puissance of white ginger and the clarity of verbena, with fresh green grass, lush sage and cleansing droplets of summer rain.)
  18. Dragon's Milk (Dragon's blood resin and honeyed vanilla. )

So far I've only tried Yemaya, but smelling them straight out the imp, I'd say Eat Me and Cockaigne are the only misses, with Szepasszony, Undertow, Ultraviolet, Titiana, Mag Mell and Dragon's Milk as possible perfect scents, depending on how they smell on me. Yemaya smells good, as I figured it would (it has MELONS, my fave!), but it's not my One True Scent. That's what I'm really looking for here, if you want to know the truth. That's why I keep going through imps at such a frantic pace.

One weird thing is that one of the free imps (I only got three this time. Booo!) is Laudanum, and I can't seem to find it on the site. The scent's not for me, but I'd like to find out what's in it (so I can avoid it in the future).

I'm already thinking about what to order next. I think I've pretty much exhausted the scents I've wanted to try that are available in imps, so now I'm moving on to the big guns, the 5 ml bottles.

I liked Snake Oil well enough, but to me it smelled almost exactly like Shalimar, and since I already have a bottle of Shalimar, I may as well mix it up a bit, so now I'm intrigued by the Carnivale Diabolique Snake Pit variations. Has anyone tried any of these:
  • Cottonmouth (Snake Oil with linden blossom, calla lily, passion flower, and narcissus.)
  • Death Adder (Snake Oil with vetiver, black coconut, vanilla, and opoponax.)
  • Green Tree Viper (Snake Oil with four mints, bergamot, and green tea.)
Or any of the Snake Pit scents really...

The Death Adder intrigues me the most because of the coconut (Obatala, my favorite so far, is all COCONUT, COCONUT, COCONUT), but maybe it'll be too close to the original Snake Oil? Plus, mint is always a favorite of mine. Hmmm, decisions, decisions...

I'm also interested to know if anyone's tried Wensleydale (an immaculately clean scent: well-scrubbed soapy skin and fresh cotton) from the Good Omens collection? $25 is a bit steep for something I may hate, but it sure sounds nice.

Since I last posted, I've had a week off, so, naturally, I've been watching tons of TV.

Ashes to Ashes
Okay, yes, I definitely belong to the group for whom this worked much better than LoM. I immediately felt more emotionally invested in Alex than I did in Sam. The only thing that worries me is that with Sam, I kinda didn't care whether he ever got home, but with Alex, I both want her to stay (and be awesome with her constructs! Which, HEEEE!) and get home to her daughter.

Pretty much the only thing I liked more about LoM is the set design/cinematography/colors. I'm not a big fan of the 80s look.

My Boys
I really like it! Okay, so PJ's voice is borderline nails-on-a-chalkboard, but the key here is borderline.

The one thing that really didn't work for me was the season 1 cliffhanger and then the whole Bobby thing. Bobby? Really? (But then again, this could be because I'm harboring hopes for a Brando/P.J. hook-up.) I've had pretty much no sympathy for PJ so far in season 2 because I'm still stuck on "Bobby? Are you kidding me?!"

The Big Bang Theory
This show suffered A LOT from me viewing it straight after My Boys. Because the lack of female characters really started to grate. One show (with at least a marginally better female showing)? Okay, I can deal. Two shows in a row? No thanks. I'm also really against Leonard/Penny. I'm so sick of the whole Geek!Boy Scoring with the Hot Girl cliché. Where the heck are my Geek!Girls Scoring with the Hot Guy movies and shows, huh?! I mean, except for Ugly Betty, I have absolutely no hope that I will get to see something like that in the near, or even not-so-near, future.

(I'm thinking it's possible that Johnny Galecki could be the real problem here.)

Also, UGH, laugh track.

That's a lot to dislike, so let me just say that I also like the geek boys (and the geek girl!) and there is a chance I might keep watching next season if they drop the whole Leonard/Penny thing like a hot potato.

I also watched the first 16 episodes of The X-Files, the pilot of Profit (which I'd actually seen before, go figure), a few more season 2 Farscape episodes, and the first two episodes of The Middleman (a keeper!) and Weeds (I don't get why I keep watching this show when every season I just get more and more annoyed with it. Actually, yes, I do. It always manages to start up again at the EXACT moment when you have nothing else new to watch. That's how they lure you in. And then they never deliver. *sigh*)

Up next: A complete rewatch of How I Met Your Mother, continuing my Farscape and X-Files rewatches, finishing Profit, FNL season 2 and CSI: NY season 1 (it was actually my first choice of Shows to Watch During My Week Off, but when I opened the DVD set I bought, every single disc was gone. I sent it back, but I still haven't gotten the replacement set).

I'm also thinking of watching the last few episodes of Doctor Who. But I don't know. On the one hand, I'm intrigued by what I've been reading and the general excitement. On the other hand, I'm perfectly okay with where I parted ways with the show. I just get the feeling the excitement won't be contageous in my case, which would probably mean a complete let-down. Isn't it sometimes better to think that the possibility for excitement is still out there if you want it?

I also managed to cap the first two episodes of Pushing Daisies. Well, the first two and a HALF episodes, but I have to actually finish the third one before I can upload the caps.

1x01 - Pie-Lette
1x02 - Dummy
