sick, sick, sick

Most of you seem to be only too happy that 2007 is but a memory, but I actually had a pretty good year. However, if the first two days of 2008 are any indication, this year will not be so good ( Read more... )

Man, I have a lot of TV on DVD, but you probably have five times what I do. :)

I could never set those 100 movies or 50 books goals for myself, because I know I'd end up turning it into obligation rather than a positive thing. But I watch a lot of movies and read a lot of books normally anyway, so I guess I'm all right not keeping track of them.

Also? 500 episodes in a year? I can probably do that in a month! *g*

Well, I do tend to buy things sight unseen. And I buy at least half of my DVD sets when they're less than half off the original price. But still, I gotta say, I'm starting to feel like this isn't NORMAL. Not that I strive to be normal, but you know. *g*

Last year was the first year I've ever done anything like that, and I think it really did spur me on when I might otherwise just have lost all enthusiasm for the endeavor. I think I probably won't reach my goal of 50 books, but I think having the goal there will keep me reading in a way I won't if I don't have it.

I thought the 500 episodes sounded like a cake-walk. That's not even 2 episodes a day, and I think I probably average that much with only the shows that are still airing. And then when you add in all the rewatches of my DVDs, well...you can imagine!

I rarely buy stuff sight unseen -- actually, the one thing I remember buying without watching first is SG1. But I had seen SGA before, so I don't even think that counts.

Lately I *only* buy movies/TV shows when they're on sale. I'd rather wait a few months than pay full price.

Have you tried reading e-books? I have to admit to loving Microsoft's LIT format. More often than not I have a random e-book open and I'll sneak a chapter or two whenever I've got a break from work. [Though most of my e-books are copies of stuff I've already read.]

I rarely know nothing about the show I'm buying (I think Huff is one of the few shows I've bought without hearing my flist talk about it before), but these days, if I want to watch a (slightly older) show people keep talking about, my first inclination is to go to Amazon, not BitMe.

I really would have no problem waiting, it's just that most shows start being available for pre-ordering at my local Internet crack dealer right around the time I get my tax refund, so I end up pre-ordering all of the shows I've enjoyed the past season and pay kinda sorta full price. I mean, there's always somewhat of a price reduction, not to mention the weak-ass dollar helping make things cheap.

I used to read fics as ebooks a loooong time ago, but I haven't tried it lately. Since I also read on my work breaks -only I read fic instead - that might not be a bad idea. What do you use as a reader? And where do you find books?

Okay, I'm totally jealous of your DVD collection. I have nowhere near that much and people say I have a lot. Then again, a lot of people at school have no clue what the hell Veronica Mars or One Tree Hill is so it's safe to say they're not the best to judge.

Wow. I so want to be you.

I also have about twice as many VHS cassettes, but I haven't had my VCR plugged in for over a year. Possibly two. I guess I'm just a media hoarder, always have been.

I've often wondered if fandom people aren't both less and more discerning than "normal" people. Like, I tend to think that fans give shows a chance to improve for longer than non-fans. But we're also very hard to impress, and even harder to completely win over. It's like an oxymoron.

I'm kind of scared at how big the 500 episode meme of mine is going to be, but I'm kind of wildly interested ;P

I have a feeling that even with the strike, it's still going to be HUGE. I'm predicting a second post just because the first one maxes out on characters.

I've actually never had a post max out on characters - how many does it take?

I can't remember the exact number of characters, but it usually maxes out around 10 000 words. Of course, if you have links and a lot of coding, the number decreases radically.

I sometimes wonder if I don't have plenty of video stores beat, just from sheer variety. ;-)
