There is only so long you can hold out before the pretty gets you.
Which means I've watched Gossip Girl up through 1x08.
- Blair. My favorite character by far. I only wish she weren't so hung up on Nate and their "perfect" relationship, because if she ever broke out of her mindset of having the perfect life I think she could be even more amazing. Chuck all the rules, Blair! That's my advice.
- Serena. Boooooring. God, it's like they had the guide "How to Turn a Bad Girl Good in Ten Easy Steps" and followed it to the letter. Every time she's on-screen I feel like I'm not so much watching a person, but a character who the writers are desperate for the audience to like. She's the one character I'd wish off the show if I could. My favorite scenario would be that she and Nate ran off together. Which brings us to...
- Nate. I can't even think of anything to say about the guy. That's how bland he is. But I still like him better than Serena simply because I don't feel like I'm constantly seeing the puppet strings.
- Chuck. When you keep hearing the description "date rapist" to describe a character, you kinda wonder if they'll ever be able to work their way away from that, especially when he's one of the main reasons you're watching. Well, his part in the 'ship, at least. Well, I think I was so steeling myself against the horrors of the early episodes that they didn't make that much of an impact when I finally saw them. It was more like "that was it?" I mean, sure, badness pretty much all over the place, but when you hear date rapist you at least think there's going to be consummation. I guess attempted date rapist is too much of a mouthful (fingerful?) for people.
- Dan. He's a nice guy, sure, and I think I'd like him a lot more if he wasn't always with Serena.
- Jenny. I think the character could have had a lot more potential if another actress had played the part. I don't think she's lousy, at least not compared to other actresses that age, but just not enough...something. Oh well, at least she's not as bad as the girl who plays Serena (did I happen to mention that I also dislike the acting there?). I think the character would work a lot better if she became a full-on bitch.
- Everyone else. Haha, I can't think of anything to say, mostly because I can't remember who else is there except for the parents. Who I don't really have an opinion of, but hey, at least they don't bug me and I'm considering that a win.
Project Runway is back!
US
Only two episodes in and I think I dislike the majority of the designers. Christian is just insufferable, so I'm settling in there for the long haul with him, even though he did almost get the boot already. Unfortunately, I also feel that, insufferable though he is, he's pretty much the only one whose viewpoint is strong enough to stand out in the cacophony of that work room.
I know the judges kept saying how amazing Rami's dress was in the first episode, but I'm sorry, I thought it mostly just looked like a gray toga, and the fit around her chest was horribly unflattering.
I don't know why, but I kinda like Elisa. Probably because kooky though she is, she's shown herself able to sew. Even if she does do it by hand.
Chris has so far proven himself to be good, but he's not got a strong viewpoint, that's for sure.
I'm really curious about that thing we saw in the preview involving Jack, but considering it was the preview after the first episode and it didn't show up in the second episode, we may have to wait a while.
All in all, I'm not bowled over by this season's designers, but that may be because I'm loving what's going on on Project Runway Canada...
Canada
For the first three episodes I was stunned (STUNNED, I tell ya!) that Megan wasn't booted. She sent some really shoddy stuff down the runway and yet she stayed. And stayed. And kept on staying on. How did she do that?
But then, she won a couple (some by luck or association, granted) and my focus shifted to Stephen. Where it's pretty much stayed. HOW is he still in the competition, I ask you? Not only has he made som butt ugly things, the times it hasn't been fugly it's been shapeless and boring and safe. I wish I knew what the judges are seeing in him, 'cause I sure don't get it.
Just like M.G. slacking off in the second episode pissed me off, Biddell doing the same thing in the latest one pissed me off. Not to mention his entire attitude throughout the episode. How did he go from confident to unbearable jackass in the space of one runway show? I think that his designs prove that he's worth one of the top three spots, but if he's going to be that much of an asshat I don't know if I'll be able to stand watching him for that long.
And as for the feud going on between him and Lucian, I'm completely on Lucian's side. At least I am now that Biddell has proven to be altogether too full of himself.
I'm really glad that Michael bowed out when she was picked, because I've enjoyed pretty much everything that M.G. has been doing since she's been back. I LOVED her cloud dress from the last episode and even though I think that Biddell was a worthy winner, I'm so happy hers got the highest bid.
The one designer I thought was booted unfairly was Carlie. I really wish we'd gotten to see more from her, because even when she went wrong, she at least didn't go off the deep end, like both Megan and Stephen have done multiple times.
My pick for final three: Biddell, Lucian and Marie Genevieve.
Also, I just have to add that I think Iman is a MUCH better host than Heidi. Though Brian doesn't hold a candle to Tim Gunn. But then again, who does?
