VM fanwanking at its finest

Spoilers for all aired episodes (to be safe). Images behind cut.

Apples and pears
On VM, Logan seems to be connected with the apple, while Duncan is the pear (at least this season). Other people have done extensive research on this (see deathisyourart's post here).

Just for fun I looked up pear and apple symbolism. Some fascinating stuff there.

Duncan
The Duncan/pear connection isn't as crystal clear as the Logan/apple one, but there are some indicators, like this poster behind him (he can't be apple, because that's Logan):

Someone in vmrandom also said that the fruit cup on his plate was pears.

Don't know how we'd know this, though, it might be pineapple chunks for all we know. But let's just go with this, see where it leads.

  • "The pear has long been admired in many cultures and, although never as popular as apple, remains one of the world’s most admired temperate fruits." (From THE PEAR IN HISTORY, LITERATURE, POPULAR CULTURE, AND ART by J. Janick)

"Admired", "never as popular as the apple", "temperate"... Am I crazy or does this not describe Duncan to a tee?
  • In Chinese Food Symbolism, pears symbolize separation, and should never be shared by lovers or friends, nor should they be given as gifts.

Logan
I can remember three separate episodes where he eats/has an apple.

Anyone got an episode to add?
  • In Christianity, the apple is often the symbol of sin, stemming from the fall of man in Genesis. However, in the New Testament, the apple becomes a symbol of redemption from that fall.
  • In Latin, the word for "apple" and the word for "evil" is the same - malum. Yet another reason it's associated with sin in Christianity.
  • In Chinese Food Symbolism, apples symbolize peace.
  • In ancient Greece, throwing an apple at a person's bed was an invitation for sexual intercourse.

Okay, so not her bed, but there is a long-standing tradition of making out in cars. Something Logan and Veronica have even done on-screen.

Comparisons

  • Apples represent females while pears represent males (I can totally see this. Logan has a lot of female characteristics, such as emotionality, while Duncan is the typical male, stoic and emotionless).
  • In Cockney rhyming slang "apples and pears" means stairs. This could wanked any number of ways. Like, for instance, Duncan being elevated and Logan being on the bottom, morally speaking. Or that could just be the perception, when really it's the exact opposite...

The captions?
Pear: preservatives added.
Apple: manufactured by mother nature.
(I didn't notice this, it's from the vmrandom post I mentioned.)

I wonder if this is foreshadowing? Will Duncan turn out to be the rotten apple that spoils the whole bunch?

In other news, the six-month Prison Break hiatus is the stupidest thing Fox has done since they cancelled... Which one was the last one? Wonderfalls? I cut them a lot of slack for Arrested Development's continued presence on the air, but really! Don't they care about their shows at all?
