Aaah.. Torchwood. Guilty pleasure of many hours better spend studying. Hitting so many right spots when Jack & Ianto get things going. But in the end.. it's diet coke. You know, tastes like the real deal at first and it makes you feel good for a little while, but in the end it just leaves a bitter taste. Seriously, though, it's good the advantage of being a Doctor Who spin-off and with Russell T. Davis writing the scripts, you can't hate it. But that's pretty much all there is to it - there are different rules in Torchwood world and you just don't get the sweet, satisfying feeling like you do after a new Episode of Doctor Who.
That said, Children of Earth wasn't bad, I actually liked the first four days. But personally, it was just a bit too much about how baaaad humans are. Sure it makes perfect sense at first, and I will easily believe that most politicians would have agreed to that 'solution' in the end. But seriously, not even ONE member of that special squad thing resisted when they wanted to deport the children. And sending of Martha on honeymoon is not a very convincing excuse. What, she's the only one with a conscience at UNIT and everyone else is just waiting for her to turn her back to decimate the human race? Why did the doctor used to work with them then? Bäh. And I also didnt quite understand that part with the wavelengths. Suddenly we can all speak through children, yeah?
Last but not least, what's with those women suddenly taken the high road? That secretary chick didn't oppose when they first came up with the plan. And the woman in the pink costume actually made the suggestion to select children based on their prospects.
So to sum things up, I'm really looking forward to Doctor Who starting again. Just so much nicer in so many ways. Doesnt make you feel bad for being a human D:">
Until then, I'll be watching Jekyll! Written by Steven Moffat, it's delicously creepy, hot and very comforting. Very nice (more detailed) review,
here.
