Mega scowled at his computer monitor, frustrated, the Paradise program was pissing him off, he couldn't figure out why it was
doing what it was doing and he felt his irritation rising. Melvin had kept Mega up to date on what happened in the monitors, but nothing really interesting was going on. Then, Java left, and Mega frowned, leaving Melvin on

Mega stood up and helped Java to stand, leading her to the bed and sitting with her on the edge, giving her another hug, his arm around her, "You'll do a good job, I know you will, because you know your place, and you know what must be done to secure our futures, all of us," he gave her another hug and stood up, moving away from her. His finger found the button on his earpiece, "DORIS! Where is Line? He better be on his way!" Mega closed his eyes and lowered his voice to a harsh whisper, "Stop calling me sweetchunks!" Turning back to Java, he gave her a short smile, knowing she couldn't have heard the last bit, "Line will be here shortly," he told her, taking a seat in the chair and picking up her jacket, laying it gently on the table and folding his hands, placing them against his stomach as he leaned back in the chair.

Java ran the tip of her little finger along the edge of her lower lip, wiping away a smudge of lipgloss, and straightened her top. She chanced a glance at Mega, whose expression she couldn't read, and then lowered her gaze to her hands, absently studying her rings and trying to clear her head. She couldn't kill Line, either, she reminded herself, so long as she was playing Good Girl for Mega; she had to keep her temper in check until the time was right. She could smell Mega's scent on her clothing.
She looked up at the doorway, waiting.

Mega was about to get up and rip the door open and scream at Doris, maybe Roger if he was around, but there came a knock on the door and he called out evenly, "Come in," sitting up in the chair. Line opened the door and nodded his head at Mega, before wordlessly setting down his briefcase on the small side table provided. His eyes traveling to Java, his favorite test subject to date, taking in her mildly dissheaveled appearance. With a familiar clank the metal case snapped open revealing a small assortment of vials, his gaze still studying his former guest. "You look healthy." Line's voice remained largely aloof as he retrieved one of the small glass containers holding the susbstance that would keep Java alive for another day, studying it closely for a moment as if searching for something. "And keeping busy from the looks of it." Satisfied that all was as it should be, he retrieved the surprisingly heavy syringe, filling it with the correct dosage. A small amount of the clear chemical came through the needles end as Line prepared to administer the shot, tapping it for air bubbles as he turned towards Java.
Slowly sliding open the side compartment on the table and removing a still packaged sterylization pad, he made his way over to the sitting woman, sitting directly opposite her on an ordinary stool. Line's focus remained fixed on the task at hand, as he disininfected the proper location on Java's upper arm. In one fluid, automated motion, the shot was administered within a matter of seconds. Not bothering to give the woman a second glance, Line stood up from the chair and returned once more to the small table with the still open metal briefcase. "The side effects of course won't be pleasant, but I'm sure you'll get used to them eventually. Increased anxiety, hightened risk of panic attacks, increased epidermal sensitivity." The case loudly snapped shut as he turned one last time to Java directly. "The effects don't last all that long however. And you're a big girl, I'm sure you'll manage somehow." Line then nodded once to Mega, metal case in hand, awaiting permission to leave. As much as he wanted to witness the effects of the drug, there were things waiting in the lab that couldn't be kept, and he'd spend far too much time on his current project to risk its ruin.
Mega sighed and pursed his lips slightly, watching Java, "That's all Line, thank you, I'll keep an eye on her," he dismissed with a small wave of his hand, watching the man leave. "How do you feel? I hear it's quite fast acting?"

"Never better," Java muttered, rolling her sleeve back down as she shot a glare at the door through which Line had made his escape. She'd kept her mouth shut during his visit, for which she was particularly proud of herself, but it had taken its toll on her gentle little facade; it was difficult to look innocent when one was imagining removing someone's face with a vegetable peeler. She would have her justice; of that Java had no doubts. In the meantime, however, she still needed to play ball.
Putting her fragile smile seamlessly back into place, Java turned to Mega. He suddenly seemed too close to her, she noticed, though he hadn't moved, and her heart quickened slightly in her chest. Just a side-effect, she reminded herself, as her heartbeat began to ring in her ears; it's not real... "You know, that guy's a real creep, Mega," Java confided, her voice not sounding entirely as playful as she had hoped it might. Her boots came lightly down to the floor, and then she was crossing the room towards him, her attempts to lessen the strength of her stride greatly aided by a slowly increasing sense of lightheadedness and vague disorientation. "If I have to see him everytime I come back here," and Java stopped, steadying herself; the room felt so small, so confining... "If I have to see him," she tried again, her chin jerking upwards in defiance of the drug, "I might decide I'd rather stay away." She came up behind her employer, her steps much less confident than they had been two meters ago, and leaned against the back of his chair as her heart pounded. Her chest felt too confining now, like the room, but Java couldn't show him that... "Maybe..." My daddy didn't scream when the bugs ate his face away. She licked her lips, once, and tried again, putting on a smile that she hoped passed for charming. "Maybe next time you could give me the shot, Mega..." The smile broadened very faintly. "I'd much rather have it be you..."

Mega swallowed hard, he was concerned, if the booster didn't work, if instead of extending her life it ended it, he'd have his way with Line, and it wouldn't be fun for the chemist. If anything, Mega had learned things from him, and he knew how to torture a man, though not as skillfully as Line, he could still inflict pain and suffering to some degree. Mega looked back to Java, "Lay down," he instructed, firmly.

Mega's eyes were burning holes in the side of her face, and Java looked to him as he ordered her down. -You- did this. Her eyes narrowed as the room spun, and she could have killed him, she would have killed him, but she was so dizzy... You're losing it, girl. Java laid down, obediently, her back pressed down into the comforter as she looked at the empty expanse of ceiling, forcing herself to get things under control. Gonna take more than a drug to take me down, she assured herself, bitterly; she was a warrior, after all, a fighter, and no chemical in the world was going to stop her from protecting Ram. Java began forcing her breathing into a regular, even rhythm, as she had once controlled it during combat training; she was all right, it was all under control, and there was something she was supposed to be doing... Breathe in, hold, out, hold, in-- Her heart continued to pound, but it was no longer getting worse, and Java looked up at Mega and remembered.
Her hand reached out to him, gently, and ran down the length of his forearm, her fingers brushing along his before taking his hand into hers. "Lay down with me," she murmured, her voice even and low and a little too thin as she gave him a gentle pull towards her.
