so the summer school was fab... loved it! though that may be coz it was more like a mini conference than an actual summer school. apparently they had about 40 applications for 30 places so could let some people come who wouldn't normally be selcted - made for a really interesting set of people rather than a load of dull postgrads haha! in fact i think there were only 2 other postgrads there, everyone else was in a more senior position and people had come from Canada, US, Australia, Israel etc. lot more philosophers than i thought there would be so was a tad difficult at times!
great presentations, really interesting. there was a guy who was working in the Canadian hospital where the SARS outbreak was and had to be quarantined. the guy from PETA was surprisingly good - i suppose i thought he'd be more in-your-face and ALF-like. thankfully there was nobody from the RDS or Coalition from Medical Progress coz they really irritate me (to put it mildly). Speakers were: Kenneth Boyd and Jane Smith (Boyd Group), Kerry Bowman, John Bradshaw, Stephen Clark, Alistair Currie (PETA), Erica Fudge, Pru Hobson-West (my supervisor), Sarah Knight, John McMillan, Ben Mepham, Mike Michael, Bob Simpson, Stephen Wilkinson, Jonathan Wolff. Oh and Steve Leonard (Vets School/Vets in Practice/Vets in the Wild, Orangutan Diaries etc) gave a fab after dinner talk too :o)
the conference centre was great though it would have been nice to actually leave it once during the 4 days and get some fresh air! so much food though... i was really struggling to fit into my trousers! i never made it to breakfast but lunches were a 3 course carvery type thing loads of lovely food to choose from and dinner was 3 course silver service. also lots and lots of wine and coffee. and no exercise... no time to exercise. i am huge which isn't so good but that food was gorgeous i couldn't resist!
Rhuiss is lame again, it seems to be his shoulder. am holding out on calling the vet coz they automatically think he has laminitis and dont check for anything else, they can't really do anything for shoulders anyway except painkillers but i can do that myself, besides he tries to kick vets in the head which is not a good thing. farrier came yesterday and checked him for me anyway and agreed about his shoulder said he'd give it a few days see how he goes but he still has great feet. Gilly was being a total prat. think he's gone a tad senile. started rearing up and then cow kicked the farrier on the arse and sent him flying, also cut his hand when he snatched his foot away. then he stood there trembling like a foal having his first trim. nutter. shambles is turning into such a cheeky pony now that he's overcome his fear of people.
went on the pole yesterday, i really need to get back into doing it regularly... leaving weeks between sessions is not good. didn't do much really, mostly not very good spins. can't do a shoulder mount with shoes/boots on for some reason... could do it ok barefoot though it wasn't pretty. have reclaimed my superman though so that was good but forgot how much teddy hurts when you haven't practised it in yonks. am really determined to start some progress particularly as uni classes start again soon so will be posting practice vids quite a bit. they'll be under cuts so nobody need look they are just for my benefit and it is my journal after all :o)
