I just picked up an application for BookPeople, an awesome local independent Austin Bookstore. They are hiring and they pay $7 per hour. I'm a shoe in. I was referred by a friend who worked there and still plays for their softball team, I'm creative and funky, and a I have a great personality and customer service experience-ish (as an RA). (Part of the application is a creative essay or poem).
THEN I GOT AN EMAIL FROM TEXAS PARKS AND WILDLIFE! The editor wants an interview with me next week! Oops that I accidentally called her a man (her name is Louie!) but I wasn't going to just give up after that one mishap with the department mix-up. The cheesy quote at the top of my planner this week, "Your most valuable asset can be your willingness to persist longer than anyone else," actually prompted me to not only create Louie's email address with my mad deductive skills and email her my resume and cover letter and writing sample, but to find her phone number on the website and leave an inquiring message. Forward Momentum!
All of this, on top of signing the lease for our apartment yesterday, (at a much lower price than we had anticipated, next door to Gunnar and Tom, to move in the first of May) makes for a very happy and excited Angela.
I'm actually totally exhausted, but I have to make a SOURCE presentation poster for tomorrow and finish up organizing the poetry reading for tomorrow. But I think that like Miles Vorkosigan, one of my favorite fictional characters ever, as long as I keep up my forward momentum I'll make it to the end.
