a bundle of possibilities!

Today's topic shall be the cycles of waste in society and how to maximize the possibility of sustainable and conscientious act and thought in daily life. Now hear me out. So I went swimming the other day and broke my goggles. We all need goggles to swim (for exercise). So I thought, "darnit, now I will have to buy goggles and I don't have a job and I need to not spend money"....but THEN, a splendid idea popped into my brain. I went to the front desk and said I lost my goggles and the man looked in the pile of lost goggles that will never be claimed/used and asked me to describe. I said, "blue-ish", and I smiled at the first pair he brought up, and voila! I didn't waste money AND now there is one less pair goggles that would be potential waste in the future. Another great example is food. We all need it. Here's a question: why does everything cost so much when you go to restaurants or cafes rather than buying groceries? Because people are lazy. If everyone knew how much perfectly edible and fresh food is wasted at restaurants every day, they would cry themselves to sleep at night. A good strategy is to hang around cafes and eat the leftovers that other people leave. (I've never done this, but if your nose has turned up at the thought of this, think of all the food you share with your friends, all that communal saliva.....it's basically the same thing). What I like to do is hang out with friends who live in co-ops and help the micro-communities reduce waste by eating the food that would go to waste at the end of the week. And now that my Berkeley ID doesn't log me into their internet system and I can't access airbears on campus, I utilize my old resources, aka the photo lab computer and printer. That's a little more difficult to get around. ANYWAY, there's this book called STEAL THIS BOOK and I think I'm at a point in my life to steal it.

Just think of all the lost and founds in all the buildings in a two mile radius of anywhere you could be RIGHT NOW! It IS possible to have fun in a city without spending money. Knowledge is free too, but you have to be clever enough to access it. It's a matter of being in the right place at the right time. And smiling a lot.
