Three months earlier.

“Dean, please!”

“Parvati, I have to do something! You were probably right about not rushing out, so I put out those missing posters-”

“Not before I had to stop you so you didn’t put them out with wizard photos on it! How would it look if every pole from here to the Big Ben had Seamus’ face winking out at muggles?”

“Sure, Vati, but I have to do more. We haven’t heard from him for ages and the search has ended. They never found a body. If I can find him…”

“What makes you think you can find him?”

“Parvati!”

“No, Dean, listen! Trained Aurors couldn’t find him. What makes you think you can?”

“I’m his best mate! Who knows him better than me? If he’s still out there, I gotta find him. Or at the very least find his body,” Dean added in a whisper. “I need the closure, Vati.”

“And what happens if you go missing too? What about me? I don’t know what I’ll do if something happens to you.”

Dean held Parvati’s shoulders and looked into her eyes. “Then come with me.”

“What?”

“Come with me. Then you can keep an eye on me.” Dean smirked and gave Parvati’s shoulder a playful shove.

“This is lunacy!”

“If it were me, Seamus would be out there in a second! Would you expect anything less? From either of us?”

“Well...”

“No you wouldn’t!” Dean took a breath, his mouth a line of grim determination. “Vati, love, I’ve got to do this. I know you’d rather keep me from any harm, but Seamus could be in real trouble. He’s my best mate. And you’re my girl. I don’t want anything happening to you, so I want you to stay here. But a part of me wants you with me. I’m stronger with you.

You know something’s going on, that something’s wrong. I’ve seen you toss in your sleep. I’ve had those same nightmares and I just want them to stop. I need to do something.”

“Dean...”

Parvati could be the biggest girly girl. She could also be the most stubborn woman you ever met. But looking at Dean, his face showing signs of constant worry and sleep disrupting nightmares, his brown eyes pleading…

Two months earlier.

Parvati drifted in and out of consciousness, dreaming but never holding onto the image. Her mind was a blur of emotions. She shifted in her sleep, right onto a small rock. It dug into her side. That was enough to wake her.

Her head felt like a group of trolls were celebrating drunkenly on her brain. Her eyes were heavy with lack of sleep; it was an effort to get them open.

It was dark. There was a light, but it was too far away to make much of the shadows. A movement caught Parvati’s eye and, squinting, she recognised her Hufflepuff companion’s silhouette. Letting her eyes adjust to the darkness, Parvati could make out Susan’s sleeping form, restless with nightmares.

Parvati looked down to find a dark hand draped over her middle. She was still drowsy and it took a few moments to realise it was Dean lying behind her, one arm protectively around her middle. She smiled a lopsided smile before her eyes fluttered and sleep took her again.

What Parvati couldn’t see through the dark was Susan’s tear stained cheeks. Her red rimmed eyes took in Dean instinctively hugging Parvati tighter as she stirred in his arms. Susan thought of Seamus’s arms around her and her tears started anew. She didn’t want to spend any more time hiding in caves while searching for Seamus. Both couldn’t be done at the same time. All she wanted to do was find him, before they found her.
