“Hey Wesley, wait. Mind if I join you?”
I looked up startled at those words and blinked at Doyle as the door felt shut behind him. I had not anticipated anyone joining me while I walked outside. In fact, I had anticipated that he and Cordelia would get into one of their usual fights again. I really which they would just kiss and make up so that the rest of us can move on as well. It's obvious to everyone with half a brain that they love each other and want more. But they're both afraid to admit it. Which is sad. Because in our line of work? And who knows this better then they do, you never know if there will be a tomorrow. You need to take every minute you can. Cease the day, so to speak.
"Don't you want..." I started hesitantly, pointing at the door behind him. As though Cordelia would be standing there to haul him back in. Which, actually, wouldn't surprise me. One did not just walk out on Cordelia Chase and get away with it. I'm pretty certain she'll be looking for a way to get her...revenge. One way or the other. "Not in the mood to bicker?" I pushed my glasses up and the corners of my mouth crinkled a bit with a smile.
"Doyle, I'm going back to my place and do 'boring research. You've never been very keen on that as I recall." In fact, it would seem I'm the only one who's keen on that. The rest either sits around and mopes, or finds some horrible excuse to get out from under it. Not that I minded, most of the time that is. I like doing research. Hell, it's my job here. Bookman, that would be me. I just wish for once they'd let me in on the action as well. I'm not *that* bad as a fighter. Honestly.
"Perhaps you want to go for drink at the pub before heading home?" And then he can talk about Cordelia. Again. And I'll listen and nod. Again. Ah, routine is a nice thing isn't it? Adjusting my books in my arms, I give him a smile and nod into the street. "We can go to our usual place, if you want."
