I'm starting to get used to living in Chamonix and working at the café now, and if it weren't for my bosses and the fact that it's so hard to get enough time off to travel I'd probably be having the time of my life. They really are horrible though, we found out that most of the girls working the winter season still haven't gotten their deposits back, and this month they decided to withhold our pay two days without even notifying us beforehand.
I can handle all of that shit though, mainly because I'm using them just as much as they're using me. What's starting to bug me is the realization that I'm going to miss swedish summer entirely. I love the opulent greens and fresh air, the summer rains and warm evenings that we have up there, and while Chamonix is lovely it just isn't the same.
Even more disturbing is the thought of missing out on Gävle in the fall. I had planned on traveling extensively after my work here is done, but now I've started thinking about making my way straight home instead, staying until those lovely October evenings have turned into gray november mush and then heading off again.
Speaking of work plans though, mine have taken an unexpected turn. Our chef quit this tuesday, and instead of hiring a new one they've decided to let me take over her job instead. No one actually thought to ask me beforehand if I wanted the job, but I guess I should see it as an opportunity to learn new things... and not get riled up at how instead of working breakfasts like the ad said I'm working 48 hours a week in the kitchen... without better pay.
