A young man met her on the steps of city hall. It was late and the building was shadowy and ominous. Helen stifled a little laugh as she thought about what Woodward and Bernstein must have felt like.

"Hi." The man said awkwardly. His brow was furrowed and he looked tired, like a man confused and disbelieving but resigned to whatever the hell was going on. Helen saw that look a lot. "It's this way." He led her into the building and down the long dark corridors, her high heels clicked loudly on the tiles. The walls of the hallway were lined with some questionable murals as she was led deeper into the bowels of the Pawnee local government.

In the supply closet on the ground floor Leslie, April and Andy stood crowded together around a cage Leslie had 'borrowed' from Animal Control with the most peculiar creature captured inside.

"It's probably a unicorn." Andy said excitedly as he bent down and pressed his face to the cage, nose poking through the bars. "This is so awesome."

"It's not a unicorn." April deadpanned, perpetually unimpressed. "Unicorns are huge, white horses with a horn that's really sharp."

"When'd you become a unicorn expert?"

"Everyone knows that that's what a unicorn is."

"Maybe..."

"Andy it's not a unicorn." Leslie interrupted. "Now shhh...someone might hear us."

"Leslie, no one is here."

"Yeah Leslie, everyone else has lives." April added helpfully. "Except Jerry." She snickered at her own joke.

"Well, you can never be too careful in situations like this. It's like on the X files. They might have tracking devices, or, or, audio bugs. Anyone could be listening right now! Just waiting to do scientific tests and arrest us!!"

Andy instantly shot up, "Don't worry, I'll look for the bugs! It's part of my FBI training." He said scanning the ceiling for any nefarious looking electronic insects.

Unconvinced April just continued to stare off into space while Leslie wrung her hands together nervously.

"Urgh, I hope this works out. I hope we don't get fired, I hope the men in black don't come to wipe our minds." Leslie paniced out loud. "Oh god, what if it's a monster that's just hiding in cute clothing? What if this doctor isn't really a doctor at all but an alien? What if the government find out? I'll never be President! I should of phoned Ron, no, I did the right thing. He would have eaten it." Leslie looked to her friends for reassurance. "I did the right thing didn't I?"

There was a soft knock on the door that caused them all to jump and Leslie to let out a paranoid yelp.

"It's just me." Ben said through the door. "I've got our guest with me."

"Oh, thank God!" Leslie breathed in relief and fumbled with the locked door.

The door swung outward and light streamed into the dark hallway. There were three people cramped into this hall cupboard looking out at Helen expectantly. The petite blond stepped out first, looked around swiftly as if she were committing some heinous crime and then shook Helen's hand rather vigorously.

"Dr Magnus! I am so pleased you're here! I'm Leslie Knope, deputy director of the Pawnee Parks and Recreation department, and these are my associates." Leslie motioned towards the sullen girl, who did nothing, and the over excited man, who waved enthusiastically. "And this is Ben." Leslie introduced the man who'd met her at the door with a tiny smile that did not go unnoticed by Helen. After all you don't live for over a century without becoming good at reading other.

"It's a pleasure to meet you all." She smiled. "Now, what is this urgent matter you telephoned about?" Helen had been quite shocked when she received a direct telephone call this afternoon from Leslie who had rattled on about 'never expecting anything like this to happen to her', 'the endless possibilities of science', and 'the unknown wonders of parks' before finally getting to the point that her and her colleagues at the Pawnee city government had captured an abnormal in the local park and were unsure of what to do with it. Helen hesitantly agreed to come but asked how Leslie had gotten her direct number, she'd replied that there wasn't anything that could not be done with a bit of perseverance and the Internet. Before she left for Indiana Helen had asked Henry to look up Miss Leslie Knope (an excellent government employee by all accounts) and find out how she'd gotten her number.

"It's in here." Leslie stepped aside from the doorway to reveal a cage with a small abnormal inside. It was roughly the size of a small chihuahua and fluttered about the cage. Helen crouched down to take a closer look. Andy bent down with her, gave her the most ponderous look she'd ever seen and said with sincerity, "What's the diagnosis Doctor?" She tried, and failed, to hide a smile.

"Well, what you've captured here seems to be a Rocking Horse fly."

Leslie bent down to join them, "Is that bad?" Her expression was concerned.

"No, not at all, Rocking Horse flies are harmless and very amiable, splendid little creatures really."

"A rocking horse fly?" April asked incredulously from above. Helen nodded. "Like, in Alice and Wonderland?"

"Yes just like that." Her friends all looked at April in amused surprise.

"What?" April asked defensively. "I appreciated the expression of childhood wonderment and joy, okay?" She crossed her arms and looked more sullen than before.

"We have a very happy brood of them already living at the Sanctuary, he will fit right in." Helen continued. "In fact, Charles came to visit me before he wrote..." Helen trailed off, four confused faces stared at her, "Never mind."
