It was raining in Amestris the day that Winry saw Ed again. To be more precise, it was the hardest rain in years, and 'saw' was not a precisely accurate word. It was more that Ed ran bodily into her as he was attempting to sneak into the house, cradling an obviously entirely ruined arm, and she didn't have the opportunity to see much of anything at all until she was sprawled in a puddle by the doorway, blinking up. Ed was soaked, she saw as a flash of lightning lit the sky.
"Oh," Ed said. "Er. Sorry, Winry." He offered his functional hand to her, which caused the gathered pieces of his automail to fall out of his sleeve. The clatter was swallowed, however, by an incredible thunderclap, and Winry flinched as the windows rattled. It was too dark to see what expression flashed across Ed's face, but he pulled her up almost too hard and she overbalanced. His shoulder caught on the doorjamb, which was the only thing that saved them both from another encounter with a puddle. Of course, instead, there was an encounter with the wall. Winry got a hand up just in time to save her nose from the plaster. A plate from Ed's automail clattered to the floor, loud even through the sound of the pouring rain.
"Not quite up on my sneaking," Ed admitted. Winry sighed, and smiled.
"Not really," she agreed. "What did you do to yourself this time?"
