I haven't updated this thing in over a year. But something has come up, and I need to post it here. I was typing an email to my friends at school when suddenly I just started typing and couldn't stop. I'm just going to copy and paste here. I'm mostly interested in what Danny has to say to this, but really, if anyone has any kind of comment or

But I always thought the glasses disguise worked for the reasons I'm gonna outline below.
First off..no one has any reason to believe that Superman even has a secret identity. He doesn't wear a mask, or give any reason to anyone to think that he's anything but Superman 24 hours a day. He's looked at as a God on earth, a savior of the citizens of the planet. No one would expect him to be walking among the humans, especially as a geeky reporter for the DAILY planet(not lonely heh). He is greater then that. No one would ever expect him to have an alter ego. So what if Clark Kent looks like him..he's a tall guy with brown hair. Surely that geeky guy in the corner of the office that no one really pays any attention to would be the world's greatest savior. For all anyone knows Superman flies around the world solving problems all day..Superman can be off in Shanghai stopping a crime and then 5 minutes later be Clark Kent and hand in an article to Perry White. Meanwhile news reports are on saying that Superman was in shanghai stopping a crime..why the hell would anyone suspect him of it?
Now the biggest problem with the identity, as not that many people see Superman and Clark Kent up close..is Lois. Surely Lois would be able to figure it out, she's one of the world's best investigative journalist. This is the biggest flaw in the entire plan..but usually in most forms of the entertainment Lois pieces it together. If you watch Superman II (which Superman Returns is a sequel to)Lois highly suspects that Clark and Superman are the same person. She eventually discovers that it's true and Superman and Lois fuck in the fortress of solitude (making the little baby that appears in Superman Returns)...now why doesn't she know that he's superman in superman returns? Because Superman II has a really lame fucking ending that was added by hack producers in which Superman erases Lois's memory through a kiss. It's fucking the lamest part in an otherwise great movie..but Lois doesn't know that Clark and Superman are the same person anymore. But she does put it together.
Also,in the comics Lois eventually put it together and figured out that they were the same person.....and she now is married to Clark.
the best way to show you why the disguise would work would for you to rent and watch the original Superman: The Movie and Superman II. Christopher Reeve is absolutely brilliant in both and he is almost a completely different person as both Clark and Superman. There's actually a scene where he, as Clark, is going to tell Lois that he's Superman and he takes his glasses off and assumes a different posture and looks like a totally, totally different person. It's scary and great acting. Brandon Routh did a very good job in Superman Returns but Christopher Reeve will always be fucking Superman and Clark Kent.
But anyways it's fun to debate this..now I realize it can be hard to swallow sometime..but also think that no one would suspect someone with the powers of Superman to even have a normal identity, I mean who would live a normal life when they had powers like that? And also Clark is that guy in work that almost no one pays attention to.
and plus.....he was created in 1938 by fifteen year olds and has become part of american culture and mythology...to change it now would be criminal!
feel free to comment back I'd love to talk further about the subject.

But I do want to clear up one thing: I'm not blaming the producers or writers of this particular movie. I believe I said I couldn't like "any of the Superman movies" because of this. Now, I realize that that would mean going back to the comics, which were invented in the 30s by some teenagers, so I can't really blame them for being retarded. And once Superman became a huge thing, I realize you couldn't really change him. So ok, there's really no one to blame for the lame ass disguise.
But in today's world for a viewer like me, it still just seems STUPID that no one could figure it out. I know that's not really an argument...I don't know, I just can't get over it. Maybe they didn't make it as obvious that Clark Kent was in one place as Superman was in another for the characters (and therefore audience)...except for the Superman on the roof-Clark Kent eating a burrito scene. Of course, that's only this one movie that I'm thinking of, not all of them, so I'm sure in others there's been better illustrations of this.
I guess I do have to watch how Christopher Reeves pulls this off, and to prove that maybe I shouldn't hate Lois Lane so much. I couldn't fucking stand Kate Bosworth's Lois Lane, though...maybe it's just cause it was that actress. Who knows!
Anyway thanks for posting and making much more sense of this, Danny,
