How interesting.

One doesn't go out of her way to find out about the recent rumors, and the universe makes it so that the rumor announces itself in the whole school. I can imagine what breakfast at the Great Hall would be like for two people.

The things we learn in our beloved hoggy-warty Hogwarts.

The things you learn indeed. Except that everything you should learn is true. This is fundementally untrue.

Is it? This is interesting. I will hold my judgement about this matter as things unfold. For now, I preffer to watch.

Ah good. Making quick judgements is foolish. But I can assure you all the watching in the world will only prove me right.

I do so hope this little event will stretch itslf over the course of a few weeks. It's very promising.

Well isn't that sadistic. Enjoying my undue and unfair embarassment as well as Bellatrix's? Aren't you just a lovely human being.

You can hardly blame me for this, Professor. I did not start this little scandal of yours. I did not wish to find out about your secret lives. I did not go out of my way to find out about it. However, since it is out in the open, so to speak, I will enjoy watching it all the same.

The alternative, of course, is for me to be sympathetic to your plights. I could defend Bellatrix's honor, stand up for your integrity as a professor, but I honestly can't see myself doing that. And I don't see what help it would be.

I know you did not go out of your way to hear these rumours not secret lives, but it is rather sadistic to enjoy watching this.

Or...you could just shut up on the subject, until you find out the truth. Which is all I ask.

What else am I supposed to do? Ignore it while other people are clearly launching their own investigations? I think not. Besides, I'm not one of those students who are, as of right now, owling home with the heading "Dearest Mumsie, our Arithmancy professor is having an affair with one Bellatrix Black," so on and so forth. I think that is enough.

Now that I think of this, there have been instances of favoritism concerning you and Bellatrix...

Yes, as all the people that see any truth in this (above the fourth year, as that lot will belive ANYTHING) are either Skeeter's friends or gullible. I know full well about those students, and thank you for not being one of them. Wait, wait, there are MORE?

Unfounded. I don't do that and never have.

As I've said, I will not express my judgement on the matter. It hardly affects me at all. However, I will admit that it is very entertaining. The more influential Slytherins are having a field day. It seems they want you out for some reason.

The relationship, maybe. But you are guilty of favoritism, sir.

Again, I'm not asking you to. I'm just saying it's cruel to enjoy other's embarassment. Oh...merde. I know why they want me out. They won't have their own way.

I am not. Prove it.

I hardly consider myself cruel. And besides, I don't enjoy your pain, per se. I merely enjoy the hustle and bustle in the school.

I certainly have no written or actual proof on this, but I do remember certain instances in class when you have favored Bellatrix over everyone else. However, this is neither here or there, and I will not raise this issue up.

Right, right, it's all a matter of opinion really.

That could have been circumstantial, I try to treat you all fairly.
