True friendship between a man and a woman?
Do you believe in the possibility of a true friendship between a man and a woman?
The question of whether true friendship between the opposite sexes is possible, is hardly something that I would consider myself expert on. Nor have I given such altruistic notions as friendship or love for another much thought.
From my first hand experience, I can't even say that true friendship itself is possible between human beings regardless of their gender. People are inheriently selfish by nature. They want what is best for them, and could usually care less how their actions affect others. So even if someone thinks that they have a true friendship with another. In reality is more than likely just someone taking advantage of them for personal gain. To use the word friendship to get something they want.
Not to mention the fact that between men and women, their is the added sexual tension that can develop from the instinctual nature of lust and primal passion that all humans have. A desire to procreate, to reproduce the species. Such desires would make it almost impossible in the long run for any true friendship to exist, without also having a sexual aspect to the relationship as well.
Now don't get me wrong. I'm not saying that it would be impossible for some human beings to overcome all the negative aspects of humanity, and have friendships, even one that felt true or perfect. It's just not something that I want any part of. For the truth will either kill you or set you free. I'm just not a very trusting fellow. Anyone remember Julius Caesar. Et tu, Brute? So yes I will never allow myself to blindly trust anyone, no matter how much they profess to be a true friend. Perhaps I am to cynical, but I'm still alive after many others whom was far to trusting of others are now but a distant memory.
