We came home Tuesday night to a delivery of feed - atop our benches and picnic table in the carport; straw (chicken bedding), grass mix hay (rabbit food) and seven assorted bags of rabbit feed, grain and chicken crumble that we brought inside the house into the basement hallway (silly free-loading rodents). ThatGuy got a big smile on his face, “if you’d told me years ago, I’d be getting animal feed delivered to my house…” and we went to tuck everyone in for the night.
4 BALES STRAW $9.99 EA
6 BALES TIMOTHY/ALFALFA/GRASS $14.99 EA
4 BAGS RABBIT PELLET (16%) $13.99 EA
1 BAG MANA $18.99 EA
1 BAG 50/50 BARLEY/OAT $11.59 EA
We dumped two new bags of rabbit feed into our metal bin, with the last of the previous food pick-up going out to the shed with the bunnies; that means that all of our rabbits together will have eaten just over $70 in pellets by the time we're putting twelve into the freezer Jan 7/8. Perhaps $40 in hay, $10 in scratch/mana/oat treats and a bunch of greens (still being foraged from the yard and garden - yay!). Sweetie and Darla accepted being bred on Wednesday and Thursday evening, and if all went well - we'll have our next two litters in a month. Two of Darla's bunnies made it quite clear that they were male, probably due to the scent and hormones, and they were separated for a time, and are now sharing a cage away from their sisters, and seem to have achieved a pubescent sort of peace together.
The chickens are all laying now, though somewhat sporadically and with varying shell hardness and size. They're quite happy and cozy in the hoophouse, digging through leaves, straw and dirt all day, to uncover the scratch and oyster shell I throw down to supplement their feed and keep them occupied.
