I went looking for bands that sound like Linea Apsera and Keluar, and the closest I've found so far is Sixth June, a Slovenian band.
Crime & the City Solution's comeback album landed with what for me is little more than a muted thump. There are a handful of good songs, "Goddess" my favorite. But even at its best, it's disappointing.
I've been listening to Claire Voyant, a Sacramento band that meant a lot to me back in the day. "Painted Gold" is an atypical track, starting off as a meandering version of their usual sound, and then taking a hard left into something crunchier, simultaneously un- and un-un-Claire-Voyant.
I remember in 8th grade making a list of the Depeche Mode songs I'd cover if I ever had a band. "The Sun and the Rainfall" was #1, and "Ice Machine" was #2. Since I don't have a band, I'm happy to see Royksopp step into the breach.
The first time I heard Wumpscut it knocked my socks off. But it didn't have much of a shelf life, and it hasn't aged well. Distorted Memory gives me almost exactly the same tingle I felt the first time I heard "Thorns." Will its period of welcome be as brief? Perhaps!
