I don't know what to make of The National? "Cherry Tree" backs the closing credits in the documentary If a Tree Falls: A Story of the Earth Liberation Front, and is a perfect match for the mood. That's the best documentary I've seen in years, and I don't know how much of that impact I'm reading back into the song. But I think the song is awfully good.
Owing to inadequate integration with the internet, I didn't learn until way after the fact that Deine Lakaien crowdfunded a second acoustic album. The peppier songs benefit more from the prepared piano treatment than the ballads. Exhibit A is "Overpaid."
