June mix up and
ready to go at sendspace.
In June I read The Island of Dr. Moreau, which is maybe not so good a book. It's possible that my judgment was prejudiced by the fact that every time the manimals did their ominous ritual chants, I heard their words to the melody of Devo and Oingo Boingo songs, which punctured the atmosphere.
Several comeback-y records represented here. Alison Moyet's new synthpop album remains impressive. 90s Hyperium act Mellonta Tauta had a melodic heavenly voices sound back in the day, and after 20 years return a little slicked up. Not as consistently impressive as Moyet's new stuff, but definitely worth a listen. Skinny Puppy's could maybe be called a comeback album? I lost track of them when they started drifting into metal, but much of the new album sounds like the later work of a band that recorded "Smothered Hope." "Wornin'" is my favorite, but most of the album goes down pretty easy.
