Is there ever a good reason to get blindingly drunk?

This question amuses me. There is an obsession with reason that pervades our contemporary life that borders upon, ironically, the unreasonable.

Must there be a reason for everything? Must there be a reason for anything? Perhaps some things just are. We exist and we live and we fuck, shit, eat and die and there is no reason either in the smallest sense of personal motive or in the higher sense of cosmic alignment.

We are, afterall, animals. Each of us no more than a beast who has learnt to create oneself in the image of a God. And so we pretend we have reasons when there is only desire.

I could create an infinite number of "reasons" to get intoxicated. Some could be labelled as good and others as bad and we could play this semantic game of justifying and legitimising my life and my choices until we all felt certain that we were not just beasts but instead masters.

But there are there are no reasons. And I feel no need to play this game with you. For in my realm: the laws are mine, not thine. Who can arraign me for't?
