It's been a rather eventful weekend, a party one night, the next night I went to see my friend Ryan play at Otherlands, they've got a great sounding room there and a very intimate environment that's just big enough to not feel cramped. Been doing some stuff musically, writing some new tunes for a yet too be decided project, stuff that's way too soft and poppy to be used with the band. I have a couple of shows this weekend, Friday at the Daisy with some random assorted bands, then Sunday at Murphys with some other random assorted bands. Also I've been learning lots of random songs that interest me. I noticed about a year ago that I didn't know many songs written by other people. So, I started doing some research and learning a few, it keeps me in practice when I'm suffering from writer's block, so I'm not playing gigs cold out of frustration. However, this has been a prospect that has proven difficult thanks to the RIAA. Apparently , they think I have tons of disposable income to waste on sheet music and tabs I can barely read. That said I do have a chord finder, so I can usually fake my way through most of what I'm trying to learn using it. or looking up random douchebags on youtube who film themselves playing whatever I'm trying to learn and rip off their hand positions. One thing I've learned in life is that saying "I'll never do something" is a strong statement that'll bite you in the ass if your not careful, but I think it's pretty safe to say that I'll never shoot myself with a webcam playing "The Final Countdown" horribly on a shitty $250 Casio keyboard. I have a hard time figuring out what the hell compells people to think such a thing is a good idea anyways. It took me years to work up the nerve to play in front of ANYONE much less an actual audience, but whatever it's proven useful in a couple of cases. Speaking of which anybody got any crappy (or good) songs as a suggestion. They don't have to be "Piano" songs, I play the instrument more like a guitar anyways. Just trying to jog my brain a little, I'm out of ideas for stuff to learn at the moment.
