Nick and I had lunch out with my husband and I decided to take a trip North to Punta Gorda to visit Knit Wit. Christy and I had a date for knitting and pie, but it was preempted by technical difficulties. So I went hoping for a few minutes of shopping. It's hard to take and 11 year old boy to a yarn store and hope for a leisurely day. We got there and Nick sat down with a woman already seated knitting with the owner. I looked around and realized that it's not smart to go into a yarn store with no plan. I was overwhelmed with the fabulousness of everything! Sherry (the other customer sitting knitting) struck up a conversation with my son and they proceded to chat for the next 1 1/2 hours. Fish, turtles, spiders, dogs, and other animals I can't even remember. This woman clearly missed her grandchildren and I was happy to lend my son if it meant I could yarn shop in peace! As I was wondering around, Connie asked about my level of knitting and I didn't know how to answer that. I've never not knit something because it was too hard. I was a little intimidated by my latest sock, but I tackled it and it is flawless. I said I guess I was quite proficient and she asked had I ever felted. Felting isn't hard at all, it's really beginning level if you ask me. Long story short (ha, that's not really possible with me!) I'm now "employed" as a store sample knitter. Starting with the Noni Bags! She kitted up a, well, kit and sent me home with it. I'll swap out with the next one when this is done. I'm doing the knitting and felting and she'll add the handles and bead the stamens on this particular bag when I take it back. She said she has enough sample knitting to keep my busy for a year. I said I'm up for the challenge!!!!!
IS THAT THE BEST DAY EVER OR WHAT!
My husband doesn't seem to be as thrilled as I am, but he's happy that he didn't pay for it! Yay for me! Oh, I bought stuff too! I ended up settling on two skeins of Cascade 220 which were to become a striped Sophie. I also picked up two patterns to make a little knit dress and matching sunbonnet for my 15 month old neice, Celia. I have some Lion Brand CottonEase that I'm doling out carefully and this set will use only 2 balls. It's adorable. I also got the Yarn Harlot's Second book and already started reading it. Do you think she'd autograph it if I sent it to her with areturn mailer? Is that weird? I grabbed a bottle of Euclan wool wash to send with my sock kit, darn it should have grabbed two! And we were discussing my newest obsession with Cascade fixation socks and she ran into the back and came out with an unwrapped ball of a vareigated yellow teal white mixture and gave it to me. She said she hates it and just take it. Yay for free yarn! Whew!
I'm exhausted, have a safe weekend everyone!
