My father worked for Mercedes Benz in Stuttgart, Germany, as a car artist. He spent about 15 years researching and prototyping for the smart as the lead artist. We traveled a lot between Esslingen (which is about 20km outside of Stuttgart) and Detroit, Michigan (but my mother and my siblings and I always came to Wisconsin to be with her family). In 1998, the smart was released in Germany as the new, must-have car. But in 2000, when they first tried to debut it in California, it flopped because the SUVs were all the rage. That's really cool. The environment thanks your dad. :) They ARE big in Canada. I could not believe how many I saw when I went home last christmas!
