Current Music: Orbital -- Sad But True

About eight hours ago, our Kevin had lunch with the most dangerous man in the world.

It seems reasonably likely the Bush administration is maneuvering to attack Iran before they leave office in January. John Howard was in Washington on the 11th of September, 2001; the obvious psychological impact helps background his complicity in an illegal war on Iraq. Kevin Rudd has no such excuses, yet in October last year he claimed Iran posed "not only an existential threat towards Israel, but also the broader Middle East, Europe and the world". Australia has warships in the Persian Gulf fleet-commanding it, until recently-but our political support is far more critical to the regime in Washington.

George W Bush is America's worst president. He's a convicted war criminal whose administration threatens global economic collapse and conflict; he's just vetoed a congressional ban on torture; even Naomi Klein thinks he's Hitler. (The US Air Force recently adopted the motto "Above All". Think about it.)

From the press conference afterwards, Rudd's remained committed to pulling us out of Iraq. About Iran, we can but hope.
