A 17-year-old Mahopac boy faces a host of charges, including attempted sodomy, after police said he drove a 15-year-old girl to a local schoolyard and sexually assaulted her.
(INSERT NAME HERE) was arraigned Tuesday before Town Justice James Reitz and released without bail, according to court records.
Detective John Lobasso arrested the boy earlier on Tuesday, charging him with attempted first-degree sodomy and third-degree robbery - both felonies - and four misdemeanors: unlawful imprisonment, forcible touching, assault and criminal mischief.
The incident took place Sept. 2 on the grounds of the Fulmar Road Elementary School Police said the boy drove the girl there against her will and, on school grounds, tried to sodomize her.
"The incident was not related to the school or any school activity," said police Lt. Brian Karst. "It just happens to be where the defendant drove the victim."
Police said the incident was unrelated to a sexual assault that took place inside a Shear Hill Road residence earlier on Sept. 2. Police said that incident, which is being investigated by a team of detectives from Carmel, the state police and the Putnam County Sheriff's Office, was isolated.
"In this case, the juvenile defendant knew the young lady," Karst said yesterday, referring to Tuesday's arrest.
Police said the 15-year-old girl struggled with her attacker. She sustained injuries and had a cellular telephone forcibly stolen from her, hence the assault and robbery charges, police said.
