i'm in no way *good* at triathlons, but i enjoy pushing myself and find the people who are not riding $10k bikes and trying to place to be really friendly and encouraging--in fact, that's what keeps me coming back to what is supposed to be a "competitive" sport--most folks (again, at my level) cheers for everyone else, even as they get passed!
bar camp isn't about computers. it's about geeks. portland barcamp always features a session on bikes and technology, something to do with textiles, hacking reality (rather than computers), and some stuff you really would never expect--last year we had a dude with a strange interactive digital photo history gadget that he explained the design of, then let you play with, then talked with you about what version 2 might do differently. i'll never own such a thing, but it was a neat experience and maybe he'll come back with v2 and it'll be even cooler. who knows? lots of neat ideas, lots of conversation (much of it not in a session, but just hanging out talking between talks or over a beer at lunch/dinner).
so yeah, make some time to come to one-i guarantee you'd get a lot out of it! they're only once yearly, in portland..
