(no subject)

I just had the most amazing conversation.

One of my classes is specifically about Western responses to the Armenian genocide.
I met this guy tonight from Turkey. I acted like a drunken ass and brought up a subject that I knew was a sore one. This was a Turkish kid who has been brought up under a government that denies that the genocide against the Armenians ever happened. Won't admit their humanitarian abuses? Then they'll never get into the European Union.

This kid gave me a run for my money. You can't blame someone for having ideas that have pretty much been brainwashed into them. It was really interesting to hear this guy's point of view. It wasn't hostile. It was just matter-of-fact. The Armenians have manipulated the media. There was never a genocide. He had me interested, not offended. I had a smile on my face the whole time. I was just so facinated.. Was someone at Clark really having a fun political conversation (slightly drunken)? GASP. When I first met this guy earlier in the week he seemed like a total douche bag....and completely dumb. But, I didn't want to stop talking to him tonight.

My research paper for the class has to be about Western responses to the genocide, and not about Turkey itself. I just want to interview this kid and Memet. and write a paper about how this topic is taught about in Turkey compared to Western countries. Not quite the same thing.

Ok, so....... I'm a huge dork. The fact that I could rant about this topic after drinking and at 1:40 am proves that.
