Oh mah gawd.
"Phantom of the Opera" on Broadway has officially rendered me to be a silly fangirl. Or phangirl. Harhar. Anyway, Katie and I waited on this hugh line outside of the Majestic theater to and after about 15 minutes of waiting, we finally got in and went right to our seats in the front mezzanine and we had GREAT seats. We could see everything and the stage wasn't too far or anything. Anyway, Katie was literally squirming in her seat with excitment and the look on her face when the lights dimmed was priceless.
The play was just like the movie aside from a couple of extra scenes and a few different lyrics but it was so hard not singing along with the music this time as we were in public. Also, the cast sang more opera-y than in the movie but that was fine. And people starting cheering as soon as the organ started playing "Phantom of the Opera". Oh man, it was awesome and to the big question of whether or not this Phantom was as good as Gerard Butler's phantom in the movie: YES. This Phantom, who was played by this famous Broadway actor, Hugh Panaro, was an amazing Phantom and as geeky as this may sound, he almost (ALMOST, mind you) had me crying at the end. I didn't though. Instead we all gave him a standing ovation at the ending.
Oh man, Katie and I were soo lucky that everything worked out and that we had such great seats. We took tons of pictures outside and wanted to stay around the theater to catch the actors when they left but we had to meet up with Diiiiiane and a cousin in Times Square. We spent the rest of the night retaining our schoolgirl glee until after me, Katie and Diiiiiane were alone in the car driving home and then Katie and I went, "SQUEEEEEE!!!!!! WE SAW POTO ON BROADWAY!!!!" and spent the entire car ride home talking about our favorite scenes and songs from the play. Guh, it was such a great day.
