Haven't updated in forever... "forever? forever ever? forever ever? forever never seems so long...." Sorry. Spontaneous song is a part of the season, though I'm sure they didn't have Outcast in mind.

Today's my last day of work for a good week and a half - I have tomorrow through Monday, jan. 2nd, off. I am excited to have a break, though work has been strangely fulfilling and rewarding of late, when it isn't making me crazy. I had a cool thing happen - some of my colleagues nominated me for an award for helping them out with a project. So I got the award, which is $175 bucks, a little certificate, and bragging rights, and it goes on my record, which is a Good Thing.

I'm excited about christmas this year, if only to give my mom her present, which is a trip for her and I to Chicago to see the musical Wicked and hang out on the magnificent mile. I think we will have a good time. Dad is probably getting her a camera to replace the one he left on the airport shuttle bus, and I have no idea what my brother is getting for her. I can't put on here what I got for my brother, because he reads this blog occasionally and he's a nasty little sneak and always finds out the things that he is getting before christmas. So there, JP.

I think I may be getting a camcorder, but I'm not sure. I need to get a maid or something, I have been living in absolute filth for the past couple of months, and it's kind of embarrassing. I don't even like being at home my place is so dirty and cluttered. But, that will probably not be cleaned until next year now. The dust bunnies have started their own band. It's called "Electric Catfish", which is kind of a spinoff of "Electric Tumbleweed", my and my coworker's side project band that was born out of a trip to Chicago. We came out of the airport, and instead of shrubbery and bushes covered in lights for the holidays, they had these big metal wire balls covered in lights that they just roll out and plug in every year. I guess it's because it's too cold for anything to live outdoors there. So, I said - "hey, they're like electric tumbleweeds" and he said "I've got that album..." and we both started laughing. Hence, "Electric Tumbleweed" was born. He's the drummer, I do guitar and lead vocals. We're an alt-rock-noir-country-punk band, heavily influenced by David Bowie, the Sex Pistols, the Ramones, Garth Brooks, Barry Manilow and Prince.

But enough of that :). I'm doing the music tonight at my church because the regular worship leader is out of town for the holidays. I'm excited but slightly concerned that I'm not really prepared for this kind of primetime. Luckily, most people will be out of town, so there shouldn't be many there to see my success or huge embarrassing failure.

I guess I should do the christmas tally of the things I've received so far from friends, coworkers, and at two very interesting white elephant gift exchanges:

- "Battle of the Sexes" card game and a funny elf hat. This was white elephant #1
- a foot tall, stuffed Tux the Linux Penguin (!)(!)(!). I am so pleased with this - this was white elephant #2
- Arrested Development, Season 2 box set
- A book on worship and worship leading from my friend and band leader Jeff
- Gift certificate for a spa and lava-lamp nitelite from my boss... mmmm, spa action
- Awesome hand-dyed cotton yarn - two hanks - and hand carved knitting needles from Thailand from my coworker. This Rocks - she knows me so well, she even knew I was allergic to wool so she got me cotton. I am so happy!
- 2 scarves are on their way - One from Nat, and one from a friend here in Atlanta. Nat, I haven't started on your scarf yet because I am a bad friend. I think I may just wait and get my friend to teach me to knit and actually make the one you want instead of trying to fake it.

I've given more scarves than I can count, two books, and still have to play santa a bit more. I also need to finish a couple more scarves and/or get more christmas gifts for people. I'm not really on top of it this year. Oh well!
