Today.

Did some cardio at the gym. Weighted chins, ended up pulling my neck, fingers crossed I can gym tomorrow.

Finished Sanderson’s Mistborn Trilogy. My Twitter summary was something like: Very good plot, fascinating magic system, insipid writing. Seriously nobody bothers to write anymore. The new writers are strong on ideas and plots, but ( Read more... )

Blast from the past? drune September 11 2011, 10:54:34 UTC
So... I was just digging around in my old livejournal for well... various reasons and I came across a post, in 2004, with 33 comments. THIRTY-THREE! Anyhoo, most of those 33 were from a winding conversation via "comment"s with you.

And at the time, being 21, I felt I was so mature and I'd experienced everything the world had to throw at me. World-weary at 21. Who'd have thunk?

Well anyway 7 years later, at 28, for no other reason than sheer whim, I'm commenting to profess my amazement that one 27 year old male trying to get into advertising in 2004, can experience the same things as one 28 year old female, about to embark on her first sabbatical in 2011.

Perhaps we all experience the same damn things, no matter the life, the era or the socio-economic conditions. Carbon-copies, but for the niggling details, of each other.

Well anyway, hope you're doing well and life has been treating you good :)

Oh and funnily enough I myself am on a 'sabbatical.'

You're on sabbatical? I finally managed to wheedle one out of my company. Going for a year, starting January... I guess it's long overdue considering how long I've been talking about taking a break (since before uni).

Anyway, here's the post and the super long comment string:

I think it's the one with the longest comment string, but I could be wrong...

Heh I always find it very disconcerting reading old journal posts. My memory is holey ... I remember vaguely, you used to study in the UK? Have we ever met before? Hope I'm not being rude, it's been so long and I haven't been actively blogging. And what are you doing these days? It's actually very rare for any company to give you a sabbatical ... my sabbatical is due to my quitting my job and taking a long and slow layover in SG to be home.

haha yeah my memory is full of holes as well. I think we were both going through an odd patch at the time... We met once or twice. I remember your Dad's old merc and supper at either adam road or al-ameen.

Well i'm in what we call management consulting, but really it just means doing odd jobs for government agencies. I guess the company needs me more than I need them at this point... arrogant but somewhat true.

How long're you planning to take a break?

Ha, my dad got rid of that old Merz but replace it with the exact same Merz! Talk about being in a time loop. What's management consulting? Help to stream line the way other people work?

I've been back in SG and on break for 2 months. Might be another month before I hear more details of a new job, or its confirmation.

What would you do on your sabbatical?

He replaced it with the exact same one? I guess nothing like a model that you already know works.

I'm planning to just bum around... which really isn't much of a plan when said that way. I'm hoping that the year will give me time to figure out what I want out of this life. Will probably give some tuition for income, take lessons, exercise... all the things I gave up, when I started working, from sheer lack of energy.

Working is sapping like that. I stopped writing of any sort and am only feeling the urge now ...

Mrmph... I was hoping for something along the lines of "don't worry work gets better". Haha. Guess not.

Oh and management consulting. yeah... part of it is about streamlining work processes. Some of it is about research. Some about HR. We're an odds-and-ends kind of consultancy. We do what we think we are capable of doing I guess.

You know I kinda cringe reading those old posts. I sound pretty self-involved and philosophical.

haha... I may be wrong, but I think that's called growing up... or well I guess growing old.

I just skim 'em to see where I've come from and where I'm going.
