Week 3 of 2

Sep 01, 2008 22:47

This is my third week of work, still unconfirmed, but they extended me another week. Why? Who knows. There's work, and there're some good feedback, so we continue. Hopefully this means we have a better chance at working out sometime full-time, when the department has been properly sorted out. Optimistically I like to think they're keeping us around because they do want us to stay on, and don't want to lose us to another agency. I have to look around anyway, keep the options open.

Went back to Melbourne over the weekend for Sean's farewell. Totally spontaneous, gee, maybe the most spontaneous thing I've done in my life, which of course, doesn't necessarily mean anything. I'm not a spontaneous person. But after some pussyfooting on Friday, it was decided that Sean would do the same for me if he could, so I booked my flight an hour before, and left work.

Of course that just happened to be the last Friday of the month, and the office was throwing a Las Vegas theme party with the usual alcohol and KFC (We handle KFC so I assume KFC is contractually bound somewhere in fine print to provide us with food every Friday. Or it's just a sign of good will. We refer to the feed as the 'Dirty Bird.'

Touched down in Melbourne almost 10, cabbed back to Kevin's place, dropped off the bags, and went looking for the bunch. We were so focused on not missing them, that we totally missed them on the street until Wendy and Irene saw us, and screamed. Somebody hugged me and shoved the labret into my lower gums, so I now have some minor ulcer.

That's the clearest thing I remember of the weekend, followed by 48 hours of binging and debauchery as usual. I'm not even sure what I consumed, must've blacked out and gone on auto-pilot at some point because Sean and I were trying to work out what happened today.

I did catch Meat Katie who played a decent set though his first half was so-so; I did dance which is always a good sign. Had fun, except the weekend--unsurprisingly--went by too quickly and Sean's leaving tomorrow.

Spent the better half of today recovering. Thought I survived the weekend, woke up fine this morning, cooked/had breakfast, showered, and began crashing on the train.

Good thing a new job only came in at 4:30pm today, and after an hour of briefing, none of us were going to get anything productive done, so we packed it in early.

It did feel a bit strange walking home on the street this evening, wishing perhaps I was back in Melbourne. But I know better now than to delve too much into these thoughts after a weekend like that.

So here I am, third week in Sydney, 1 September 2008, three and a half month after returning to Australia.

Oh and Tropic Thunder kicks ass.
