Another Shade Of Lack Of Comfort

Apr 21, 2005 19:04

Well, the lack of conversation with Xander was a shade of uncomfortableness and now I was moving on to another thing that I was less than excited to do. See Angel. CheckI couldn't help but be surprised at the new local for him. A notoriously evil law firm? It didn't seem like his style really. But we live in two different worlds now. We have for a ( Read more... )

I shrugged Wesley's concern off, and offered, "Maybe he just reminded ya of someone you saw on TV or a commercial, Wes. I mean, it is LA..."

"And how would we find a way? I mean, aside from locking them all up and starving the truth out of them... I don't think there's a way to ever completely know." I glanced at Wesley, then glanced up as my door opened, and a young intern peeked in. "Yeah?"

"Um, there's a package for you..." she said, looking shy and intimidated.

"I'll get it later," I said, and she vanished. I glanced back at Wesley, and sighed. "Never a moment of peace around here, huh?"

"More than likely," I agreed with Gunn about Connor. The boy was probably nothing.

"As for the truth, perhaps a spell? A truth spell?" I offered, "Though that seems like it might backfire somehow." My forehead crinkled in discontent.

"Yeah," I said, and smiled slightly. "I mean, not like we've ever had the best of luck with spells around here, right?" I nodded slightly, then sobered.

"I don't know. We can't trust anyone around here," I said bluntly. "Tell 'em what they need to know, nothing more, and... hopefully that will be enough," I said softly. We could hope... and deal with whatever came as is it did.

"I don't think that'll be enough. We're running a company now. We need to be able to trust some people and not put it all on ourselves." I replied, pointedly.

"I truly think it is needed." I sighed. It was practically impossible, what I was asking. How could we trust people around here?

"I know," I said quietly, "Just wishful thinkin'. Things aren't so simple anymore, are they?" I snorted, then looked across the desk and grinned.

"We're never gonna know who we can trust or not, English." Because in our world, something always came up, and always went wrong; it was just the way things were. No amount of spells or paranoia was gonna change that, as far as I could tell. We could try but... I didn't see much good coming of it, especially knowing our luck with spells.

Something caught at my mind, and I wondered what spell I was thinking about in particular that had given us so much trouble, but... I couldn't remember off hand, and let it go for now. Didn't seem important, even if things were a little fuzzy about it. Probably just all the paperwork from lately...

I catch his smile and smile back slightly. "No, they really aren't quite as simple." I suppose it was wishful thinking.

We could at least trust one another and that was important. I knew exactly what he was thinking. All the things we've done spell wise that might have caused great trouble. I knew there must have been something big, but I was forgetting. Perhaps this place was truly getting to us.

"I think we should try. The spell, I mean."

What's the worst that could happen?
