VM Craze
I'm so confused! Thanks to brasaremean, I've finally gotten really into Veronica Mars. It really is a great show... witty young detective with a cynical view. She doesn't lead a perfect life and is the underdog, so how can you not root for her?!
What's funny is that the creator of the show, Rob Thomas, is one of my fave authors. His book Rats Saw God is great. It also is a name of one the episodes. I only made the connection between Thomas and the show when I visited his website. Then, it was like, oh yeah! Apparently, his roommate at UT went to Clear Lake High School (my old haunt) and that's what he based a lot of the characters on. It's not as bad as Neptune, but it has some similarities... Anyway, I wrote him an email telling him that. I don't expect to hear from him, but it just makes me love the show more! VM was supposed to be a book series. Although I'd love to see some VM books, I'm glad it's a show! :)
Here's the problem... I joined the minority of Duncan & Veronica fans. I've seen the pilot and "Ahoy, Mateys!" and some snippets of a 1x02, 1x07, and 1x09. I don't understand about Duncan's deal with dumping Veronica. I was thinking it was because of her dad and Lilly's death, but then I saw that he was ignoring her even before that! I know that there was the theory that they were related, because their parents dated. But, why did Duncan abruptly break up with Veronica? Is it because he thought she was his sister? And they slept together at that party when Veronica was drugged with the date rape drug? But what about Duncan? He was ignoring her then, so what's his deal? I don't get it... I know he disappeared to Cuba, then came back. What's that all about? Seriously, WTF?! Upcoming potentially scary moment tonight where Duncan looks rather seductive and CC is a bitchy whore:
All I know is that Logan holds little appeal to me. Sorry, everyone! I know that LoVe is appealing to so many, but I only saw his appeal in the very last episode, when he tried to protect Veronica. But he's so lewd in the pilot and the first season. Yuck! And Logan has a rage problem with smashing V's car. Weevil takes care of that, but still... Anyway, I like Duncan's chivalry. He seems troubled (who wouldn't be with all that happened?), but I think he's so much better for V. I know I haven't seen all the episodes, but that's just the feeling I have now. I did read that a character is going to die this season... and there's speculations that it might be Duncan! :( I guess it depends on negotiations. Damn minor spoilers for ruining my vicarious love life! LOL! I heard a podcast (hint: click Podcast to play clip!) of Enrique C. talking about it, but he wouldn't reveal the character. Btw, Enrique is so talented! I used to watch Just Shoot Me if nothing else was on, and the difference between his character on VM and Elliot DeMaro(?) is astounding. And don't get me started on how great Kristen Bell is as an actress. She really brings her A-game! An oscar is in her future, I bet.
Sadly enough, there is even more speculation that Meg, Duncan's old girlfriend, might be pregnant. She's in a coma, having survived the bus crash, but who knows? Between the weird dream Duncan had of her (very sad, because I thought it was V. at first!) and the mysterious letter, I don't know what to think. :( Like father, like son? That would be so disappointing!
Something else I wonder about is how do they get Veronica to appear so young in the flashbacks? I know they put a wig or extensions on Kristen. And she dresses in more revealing clothes as a younger V. Maybe they also put on less make-up? As the present V., Kristen wears bulkier clothes and appears older with her make-up/hair cut. It's the same with Alison Lohman in White Oleander. She appears so young in the beginning with long hair, and then appears edgier/older with make-up and a hair cut later in the movie. Both Kristen and Alison are tremendous actresses! :)
