more and more I am convinced that even if Christ Himself were to come to earth now as He did the first time (as in, not the Second Coming but more like Incarnation 1.5), He'd definitely be executed again.

Yeah, the problem with that comic and what it infers is the number of higher ups who did know of the problem and did nothing but send the abusers on to do more harm with a slap on the wrist and a relocation ( ... )

ok. here's the thing. AP, the NYT, and all the people who pick up and run their stories are not stating the truth. when they report facts *at all*, they are so distorted that they're unrecognizeable.

yes, there were priests who abused children. yes, there were bishops who mucked around and just moved them instead of taking care of the problem. those are true. they are *not common*. priests molest kids at rates FAR lower than any other group of people. that does not excuse those who do: but molestation is not a specifically a Catholic-priest problem.

if you want reports, facts, THE TRUTH (all of it), instead of vicious agenda-driven hate-mongering, it's out there. I can direct you if you like. don't be content with accepting whatever is put in front of you at face value.

also that knock at God is one of the most bizarre, ridiculous, ignorant, fallacious non-sequitors I've ever seen.

I think that in general they're angry (some at abusers who seem to be getting off the hook, some at the church or religion or something else entirely), and it causes them to overreact greatly. Goodness knows that I did just there.

Please do direct me to the reports that you mention. I'll admit that a lot of what I've heard are rumors, and as crazy as I can be about the subject (and believe me, the anger I display above is far from the extent of it), I do want to have a balanced and correct view of the matter.

I really don't blame the Catholic Church; I blame abusers and the people who cover for them instead of making sure they can't hurt again.

On a side note, I don't believe Christ would be executed today (at least not in most countries, where religion and perceived violation thereof is not acceptable excuse for execution). On the other hand, I'm not sure if he would be received much better than Brother Jedd, especially if mainstream religions didn't recognize him as Christ.
