I am fucking crying over this. I feel like a bunch of baby boomers and yuppies and all the rest of the corporate fuckers who don't give a shit about anything real and true and honest and beautiful and deep and complex and fantastic have just come into my house, mutilated my books, and corrupted my children.
I didn't cry over Lord of the Rings, or Ella Enchanted, or the Star Wars prequel trilogy, or any of that.
but no. this is too far. how did they find us? why do they exploit us? none of them are the sci-fi/fantasy appreciative types. who loves a book and then says, let's make a movie of it, but we'll change every single thing that was good about it to make it more palatable to the unwashed, uneducated, unappreciative masses and UTTERLY DESTROY IT IN THE PROCESS!!! MWAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!
The Dark is Rising sequence is a book series that up until now I naively thought was known to very few dedicated undertsanding people. well, the grey king is known to the newbery award winners, but it was a long time ago and I don't think they looked at any of the other books in the sequence.
you know the new movie "The Seeker"? last night I saw the little box for it at the harkins movie times thing inside/above the ticket booth. I thought hey, hmmm, the dark is rising, I wonder if that has anything to do with my FAVORITE BOOK SERIES OF ALL TIME? but "the seeker" isn't a title of any of the books so I thought it was just a kooky coincidence. we didn't see it because everyone else thought it sounded lame because it was PG.
now I was looking up movie previews on apple.com and I was like hey, I wonder what that seeker one is about. so I watched it. the kid's name was will. slowly but surely, to my rising dismay, disgust, and despair, it turned out to be my beloved series. evidently this one is some hodgepodge slap-together of the SECOND book, properly titled "The Dark is Rising." for trivia, the first book is "Over Sea, Under Stone."
this is too fucking far. beleve me when I say they have irreparably KILLED - no. MURDERED - the most wonderful book series you and I will ever read.
