oh my gosh. and I thought I was being cheap... holy freaking cow. it doesn't even include things like underwear, church fees, beverages, wedding party gifts, dress alterations, the marriage license, and on and on. I'm not getting shoes, not paying for hair/makeup, making my own veil, invitations, centerpieces and flower arrangements, not doing favors, not doing a dj/band, and serving hors d'oeurves. my dress is categorized as "affordable" pricewise; it's not crazy. the bridesmaids' dresses are classified as "very affordable." my reception site and photographer package are the best possible mix of quality and cheap, and are far and away more inexpensive than others people get who say they are planning "budget" weddings. I only have a few splurges - the toasting flutes, deven's ring, and the guestbook.
it's CRAZY that it costs this much. I've pared and pared... over nine thousand dollars for a day which, when it's over, will leave me with a man, a ring, some pictures, a guestbook, and a full tummy (hopefully, if I get to eat anything).
I know that doing a barbecue potluck in the park behind my house, with paper plates and plastic utensils, with cupcakes, and getting married in a sundress, would be a lot cheaper, but... I want things to be nice. I thought I did a good job of balancing nice and cheap, but I don't know... it's probably $10k after all the other stuff is added, plus tips and things.
I love my family. I love my friends. I'm pretty sure that I will end up loving most if not all of Deven's family. I love that these wonderful people have put up with us and been there with us (and for us) and have just been amazing in general, and I want to host a great party so after they are there to witness the beginning of our marriage, we can all have lots and lots of fun, and I can show them how much they're appreciated. that's why I don't want to slash the guest list more than it already is, or just plain elope.
I'd need to save over $3k a year.
I need a job. but what can I do? *is bewildered*
