So we're in Corvallis the other day, and I was talking to some kids there who are graduating from OSU. I was talking about all the delapidated houses I saw on the roadsides, and every time I said delapiDated, they'd interrupt me and say delapiTATED. OSU kids don't know shit. It's really been bothering me. I was thinking, man I know I wasn't so drunk I wasn't speaking English anymore! I know my words dammit! So here you go:
Main Entry: di·lap·i·date
Pronunciation: d&-'la-p&-"dAt
Function: verb
Inflected Form(s): -dat·ed; -dat·ing
Etymology: Latin dilapidatus, past participle of dilapidare to squander, destroy, from dis- + lapidare to pelt with stones, from lapid-, lapis stone
transitive verb
1 : to bring into a condition of decay or partial ruin dilapidated by use -- Janet Flanner>
2 archaic :
SQUANDERintransitive verb : to become
dilapidated Might be a pissy and small thing to fight about, but seriously, I had three people chime in on me interrupting my little story and say delapiTATED like I was a goddamn retard. What are they teaching kids in college these days?
