What do you think about this?  Do you think that an email should have been sent out immediately to students about the first shootings?  I don't remember it being LSU's policy to have huge broadcasts about things (though we never had a shooting while I was there).  I believe the concept was to contain the incident to avoid mass hysteria - perhaps a radio/email message could have been sent, but I don't know that that would have deterred people from going to class...I think I would have assumed that it was something gang related or personal - rather than thinking, well, I guess I shouldn't go to my English class today because there was a shooting in the dorms...

Maybe I'm completely off base?  I agree with the President of VT - shutting down a campus would be like shutting down a city.

I think when things go wrong, our society is too quick to point a finger and BLAME someone.  Someone always has to step down, like it was THEIR fault.  I don't agree with this.  What happened at that school was terrible, but terrible things happen.  They happen because of violence, and they happen because of nature.  That's part of life, and unfortunately, violence like this is part of life these days.  I think it was ALWAYS a part of life.  Who knows what terrible serial killers/mass murders there were way back before instant communication and national broadcasts?  Has life become WORSE, or do we just get to hear more about it?
