Mum is doing much better - apparently there has been no permanent damage, so that's great news.
As a distractiony-thing, I asked
smilla02 for five words in a memey-type thing. She gave me five words/things/people, I have to write about what they mean to me.
Phantom of the Opera I was a Gothic kid. Not a Goth, just interested in spookery, and POTO just has everything that thrilled me back then in spades - mystery, spookiness, cloaks, masks, high drama and just, you know, the tragedy of it all!!! Add the musical coming out when I was in my early teens and at the height of my OMGwoesIamalltragicandmisunderstoodjustlikeErik! phase and that was it - ♥ Also, ever since the (rubbish but beautiful) film version of the musical was released in 2004 the amount of wank in the fandom has been EPIC - and just when it was fading a little, ALW is writing a sequel. This will keep us wanking into the next decade - hooray!
Monica Bellucci Perfection in female form.
horses "I grew up on a horse!" I practically shrieked at someone today, and whilst not strictly accurate, like a lot of young girls I was just in love with ponies. I'm rubbish at driving, wobbly on a bike, but on a horse...even the clumsiest, most awkward person (like me!) can feel graceful for a while. There's nothing like it.
hair Ooh, there's a one. For the past five years, ever since contracting chickenpox (tip - if you have kids, make sure they get it young - adult chickenpox can have horrendous consequences) I've had alopecia areata - meaning, patches of my hair fall out. They then regrow, and I'm all YAY!...then fall out somewhere else, and I'm all NAY! It's difficult - no matter how many times you tell yourself that it's only hair and as long as I'm healthy otherwise it's OK, simple things like someone laughing behind me in the street make me panic and think "Oh no, is my bald spot showing?!" Then there was the Great Eyebrow Crisis last month - half my eyebrow just vanished overnight. Maybe the pixies took it.
Anyway, I'm about to try a treatment where I get acid poured on my head (a small concentrate, and only on the patches, but the other way sounds more dramatic!) to see if that works. I have a fabulous wig that I wear when I can't be bothered combing over the bald patches, and I have learned so much about wig/make-up application through all this that I've been accepted onto a Theatrical and Media Make-Up course (something I've always had an interest in but never the confidence to do) in Edinburgh next month - so maybe a new career beckons, who knows?!
Chris Larabee is a character from the Magnificent Seven TV series. Chris, all in black and brooding, takes us back to the tortured moody angsty type person I seem to identify with. Like Raoul from POTO, I think I started to like him more after reading fanfiction. His character is often abused something awful and that's my pet hate with fanfiction: when a character, is twisted so far from canon for the author's own purposes that only the name remains the same. I won't get started on a rant though or I'll be here all night...
