this is probably the worst thing i've ever written, but i'm frustrated and it is due tomorrow, so here it is.
My high school years have been marked by concurrently attending two high schools, participating in extracurricular activities, performing over 100 hours of community service and holding a part-time job. In addition to my home high school, L’Anse Creuse High School, I have attended Macomb Mathematics Science Technology Center (MMSTC) for half of each school day since the beginning of high school. MMSTC is a competitive program that accepts only 72 students in Macomb County each year. It also requires an annual formal research project to be completed in partners. This research paper includes a statistical analysis (including four-factor DOEs) and a comprehensive multimedia presentation. This year my partner and I are testing the effectiveness of different active ingredients in antacids by measuring the change in pH of a simulated stomach environment (a solution of 0.1M HCl and the enzyme Pepsin, which functions as a buffer in stomachs) before and after the chemical active ingredient is added. We will analyze these results by using matched pairs t tests to ensure that the change in pH is significant, and then compare the active ingredients’ effectiveness to each other by using two-sample t tests.
Participating in extracurricular activities is a big part of my high school career. I was involved in Quiz Bowl and Voices, L’Anse Creuse High School’s literary magazine. Furthermore, I continue to be involved in Science Olympiad (for all four years of high school, eventually becoming co-captain of the team), Spanish Club (for every year of high school as well) and National Honor Society. Outside of school, I was an active equestrian during my junior year. Also, through various activities I have acquired over 100 hours of community service. Some of these activities include math tutoring, showing prospective freshmen around MMSTC, Cans for Cancer, volunteering at a Siersma Elementary’s math night, and volunteering at Carkenord Elementary’s School-Aged Child Care (S.A.C.C.) program. In addition to these activities, I have held a job at Shores Meat Shoppe as both cashier and counter-help since August 2003.
Although activities are a big part of my high school career, academics always come first. I am currently ranked 1 in a class of 386 with a GPA of 4.102. I have taken many honors courses and two AP courses, Statistics and U.S. History. On both the Statistics and the U.S. History AP examinations I scored a 4. On the ACT my composite was a 35, and I scored a 36 in both the science and reading subsections. On the SAT I my composite was a 2260. Also, I am currently a National Merit Semi-Finalist. During my high school years, I have also received the Madam Curie Award of Excellence for merit in math and science, and the L’Anse Creuse High School Scholastic Achievement Award each year that I have been eligible.
With a rigorous course schedule and a busy extracurricular life, I have honed the skill of time management. I need more things to say about this! And I need to fit in teamwork!
In the future, I hope to attend an accredited University and obtain a degree in science.
