I Was Just Wondering - 6/6/05

I want to ask you something.
But when I ask you, I want you to keep in mind;
That I know you're not property.
That I know that I can't put a label on you that says 'mine'.
That I know that I can't put a price sticker on your forehead to give you away; let it be known I wouldn't if I could.
That I know I'd have to share.
That I know I can't neglect you.
That I know I can't smother you, and I can't be mean.
That I know I can't hold you too tight, and I can't walk all over you.
That I know I'd have to give you what you need, and help you get what you want.
That I know I'd have to let you do what you want, but still keep you from hurting yourself.
That I know I'd have to keep your secrets secret, and when needed, help you spread the word.
I want you to keep in mind that I know it would be hard.
And that I know that you're not property.
But I want to ask you something.
Can I keep you?
